Atlantic City Confessions (Final Trip for 2007)

This year I have been to the casinos more times than all other years combined. Jan-April were good to me. I was ahead many times and hit 3 jackpots for over $1,000. Not bad!

But ever since then it's been all downhill. I've changed my strategies many times. I've temporarily given up table games. Basically, I've become obsessed. In a good, fun way. But it's starting to effect the bank account.

I just lost a few hundred at Empire City and I'm bummed about it. I only went there because I couldn't wait for AC next week. Big mistake, but what can you do.

Sunday-Tuesday of next week will take me back to AC for the last time in '07. I'm going to hit a few different casinos and have one last round of fun & games.

Now, I didn't lose my house or anything. All bills have been paid, but it's time to chill for awhile. If anyone reading this is in a similar position, I'd love to hear from you. I'm being smart and stopping before it goes too far.

I'll be sure to post one last 2007 trip report when I get back. This is definately not goodbye to AC (or Mohegan or Empire or Vegas....) Just going to take a rest for a little while.

yes, i've had those ups and downs. quite typical for gambling.

i also get quite sick of it when i don't hit for a while, and want to go back the next week when i hit something good.

hopefully your next tr will be a winning one.

I am in the exact position you are in. My girlfirends and I been going about every 6 weeks for the past year and not one of us has had one winning or even a trip where we bring a little home for the next trip. It's funny, my girlfriends and I are going November 29th and 30th and I have reservations for December 27th and 28th, but we decided if this trip is another losing proposition, we're cancelling the December trip. We booked a cruise to Key West in January and a trip to Vegas in April. For the amount of money we bring to AC we can really do something nice with our money and enjoy ourselves, sipping umbrella drinks and play $3 tables at the casino on the cruise. About a year or so ago, I was going to AC with the same 1500 I won in Vegas, it lasted me about 4 trips. Things are so tight all over and it's making a difference on the amount of trips you can make a year.

MrsHeartRN,

I agree with you in that you can take a nice cruise and stay on in a balcony cabin for a week then loose $$ in AC. The tables on ship start at $5.00 with Royal Caribbean. At least they were on the Explorer Of The Seas in September.

We have never been big gamblers and don't chase comps. Last few visits we broke even and have a good time but I don't take more than $300 for each of us to gamble with.

Mostly play tables and that last 2 nights and usually come home down $100.00 or with a few hundred up. It is mostly a get away from work and visit a few nice restaurants.

We canceled our trip this week due to AC since we have 2 trips planned in December. Until AC cleans up there act in the casinos we would rather take vacations and just gamble less.

I"m taking a Carnival Cruise (total cost to Key West and Turks and Cancos for 5 days $354 oceanview cabin, airfair $140) and they have $3.00 tables. It's not the big ship oh la la but we had a great time last year when we went. Last year's cruise, I won about 900 at the tables over the week. It scratched our gambling itch, while having a great time on vacation.

I can't believe how similar all our stories are.....

I was also on a winning streak from March to May. I was walking away from the Borgata's 3 and 4-Card Poker tables every Saturday morning (after gambling since Friday night, up a minimum of $1000 per visit. I would get a Straight Flush or 4 of a Kind each visit. I probably won over $10k.

Then...... nothing. For the last few months, I haven't had a visit where I didn't hit the ATM for a credit card cash advance - a VERY BAD HABIT. I saw a credit card that had a $0 balance reach over...... well..... nevermind! Plus, I couldn't stand the thought of what I could have bought for my home - for instance, a kitchen. (Lowe's or Home Depot quality, but still - a kitchen).

I stopped going as often because I was sick of losing. I stopped going almost completely when my husband saw the account balance.

I said that I wouldn't go until December 15, when Mellencamp is playing the Borgata. I just booked a room for Saturday night, November 24th.

sigh.

Northjerseygirl, my girlfriend said she could get the new above ground pool and the PVC fence she wanted with the money we dropped in AC last year. I'm in a much better situation moneywise than her and it's killing me! We are definately putting the breaks on AC and their losing their bread and butter customer base.

This is an iinteresting and very timely topic, and I am very impressed with everyone's honesty....

This past year we (hubby and myself) have visited AC more than any other year (kids are finally done with college and are working and making money) and while we have had some nice hits, we certainly spent more than we won. I find that if I win, I am so eager to go back to win more, but if we lose a decent amount, I am not so eager to return - so maybe in the long run I am better off losing???

Anyway, we did have two more trips planned for December, but if we don't do well on the first one, I doubt we will go back for the second. With the holidays quickly approaching, and our son just getting engaged, it really is hard to justify spending the money. I love it so very much, but I think we need to space our visits futher apart...

On that note, have a wonderful Thanksgiving fellow ACers and I hope you have much to be thankful for!!!

I am also impressed with everyone's refreshing candor on this topic. I looked at my W2G's last night. I have 14 of them from January 1st through April 1st, and 3 since then (1 of which is from Vegas) To me (and this is just my experience, obviously) the gaming started going south in April. Since renewing 7 Stars in August I have only stayed overnight about 3 times. Like many of you, too many lackluster trips in a row puts a damper on things for me. In fact, just this morning I told my spouse that in 2008 I intend to make 4 or 5 trips out to Vegas or elsewhere in lieu of my almost weekly trips to AC.

Again, for me it isn't entirely about the win/loss ratio. I lost in 2005, won a lot in 2006, and am down for 2007. It is more my perception of how much "bang for the buck" I am getting. The bang just ain't there anymore in AC, at least not for me.

And yes, I agree whole-heartedly that a good hiatus from gaming is advisable when you feel the "mojo" is gone.

Yes A/C has really put the brakes on alot of people's Visits.I think they took the wrong approach to All their lost Revenues by Tighting up the Slots and cutting Comps. We are down from 45-48 trips a year, to about 12-15.Doing just as Good in Pa and N.Y.as we use to do in A/C!!!
