TR May 25-28, 2008 Showboat / Casears AC

TR May 25-28, 2008

This is my first trip report on the board but I have reviews of several AC Dining establishments posted and active.

Showboat (Sunday Comped Night)

Day 1: My wife and I took the bus to AC and it made good time. Got off at Taj Mahal and used the connecting skyway to get to Showboat (Thanks

fellow posters for the directions to get from Taj to Boat via the inside connection. This worked well for us. Checked in at 12:15 PM on Sunday check-in was fast. The room was ready also so we got keys right away and went up. Booked the Bourbon Tower Premium Roon but was stuck with New Tower room overlooking Showboat Courtyard/Drop Off Area. Also was Given Non Smoking room with Tub not Smoking room I requested with big bathroom or walk in shower(Bad Start). The room was nice but thats it just nice. No regular coffee in room just decafe and no condiments hhmmm. I tracked down housekeeper and got regular coffee packets. Sat down in room that had great bed but

older worn furniture with cig burns on edge of nightstand (ok non smoking room yeah) NICE tube TV Relic.

Noticed stuff on the nicely made bed upon inspection it turned out to be saltine type

cracker crumbs all over big crumbs too. House keeper must have been eating saltines making the bed?(Un Happy bout that). Bathroom soaps etc were sparce and I do not think the room was fully stocked just had soap and shampoo. Curtains in shower were

off some of the rings. My wife did enjoy the larger deep tub tub though for bubble bath.

Off to the gaming I did great up 160 in 2 hours and was on roll so missed the After DF

Meet up (sorry) I will be there again later in June (Not at Boat Though). Took the winnings

treated the wife to the French Quarter Buffet (Our first time). It was good I enjoyed most

everything I tried except the expresso machine egah. Good meats, cornbread, salads,

baked beans, chinese, pulled pork, and some cool seafood salad calamari. Our waiter

at the buffet was great he hooked us up with bottled water also for after dinner excursion

back to casino.

Played and did pretty good on slots actually played till 1 AM rare for me LOL. Kept going

up and down. Woke up Monday and just wanted to bail to Casears (both of us) the room

was very medicore, the casino was ok kinda noisy my wife said. Some of the traveling entertainers

were cool, Musicians, Jugglers and more.

Note that the room seemed kinda unvacumed and low stocked on stuff, coffee, soaps, etc.

The check out was fast we were not asked if we enjoyed are stay? I would have mentioned

the cracker crubs on bed. They did not try to accommidate my preferences AT ALL so thats

a bummer as we didnt really like our stay just liked the food and won a couple of bucks. My smoking

room was as mentioned non smoking (I will not let that happen again), The tower was switched but

yes I know based on availablity (humbug). We were in such a hurry for Casears we got a cab and

skipped the packed rewards shuttle to zip over. Bye Bye Showboat will go back to play maybe but NOT

to stay, it was kinda weak even at a comp the room was poor.

Casears (Monday-Tuesday Comped Nights)

Cab from Boat dropped us at Casears at 12 Noon check in was quick and we were informed to come

back at 3PM for our keys (not a problem were used to that at Caesars so checked our bags). And they

just asked me to come back or call at 3PM. We were hungry after bailing from the Showboat so quickly

so My wife said La Piazza would be easy for lunch we went. I was caught off guard when the lady rang up

us 2 adults and it was almost 60.00 for lunch buffet. It was not posted but it was holiday price so being

hungry we paid and were seated. Then I see why they had steak and crab legs and other goodies not

normally on lunch buffet. So it was worth the extra bucks for the crab legs and they had a ton of other

good stuff too.

Played some slots and let the food digest a bit. About 2:45 pm my wife asked if I would see if the room was ready and we went back to lobby. No problem room was ready and also AS REQUESTED that was

great. Finally we got to stay in a Renovated Centurion (Yes Smoking, Thanks Casears), and got to stay in the luxury of that Big Flat TV Huge, TV in the BR Mirror woo hoo, New Furniture and awesome bed. Got All my requests but Ocean View (was Memorial Day what can you do). and we faced the city backwards

kinda towards Borgata and could see Harrahs too nice view anyways was on the 33RD Fl.(Good as Borgata totally).

Was super pleased with the room and soaps etc, great showerhead too, lotsa pillows and towels A+.

These two days and Casears were like a world away from the medicore Showboat (IMO). We also

have been doing good with Casears as far as COMP's and accomidations etc. Staff for the most part

there and at Ballys was great several times introducing themselves and asking you name also when in conversation, That sure did not happen at the Showboat just Casears and Ballys.

Tuesday we Jitney'd on over to Borgata and played our free money slot dollars, again I won from that

and took home an extra 40.00 even after the buffet and a long long run and some good hits on the new

Penny Barn Machines they were like giving me credits LOL.

Also in this 2 day Casears stay we ate at WWW Virginia City Buffet (Great) La Piazza (few times, a-ok), Johnny Rockets, and a few snacks on the boardwalk. Last Day I hit 4 slot jackpots at Ballys awaiting the time to go to bus depot and raked in a few hundred bucks woo hoo. Ballys main Casino not WWW. Came home with my B-Roll and a few more duckets. Was only out some food money and the meals were good! My wife did not win she was bummed usually she wins not me guess i just picked the right machines lol.

Bus back to BX was fast no problem had a good trip other than the Showboat gripes. Prob will not stay there again as I mentioned. Sticking to Casears for now BUT anxious to try Harrahs on the Marina too and Ballys Tower premium also is on the too do list.

Hope you enjoyed, Maybe the Showboat could have been a little better room wise and the stay would have been more enjoyable. Casears was again NO COMPLAINT this time.

Sincerely, AL , 1 of the 2Frys

Good trip report. Caesars and Harrahs are my casinos of choice, with the rooms at Caesars being a bit nicer, but the wins at Harrahs better.

I have been alternating between the 2 and also find myself gravitating to Showboat once in a while for a change of pace. The only time we got a room at Showboat the room was just awful so I'm reluctant to stay there again.

The director of the hosts at Showboat told us that our next trip they will give us a suite and we will be RFB for the weekend. Guess we will take advantage of her offer.

I love the Press Your Luck Big Event Bonus at Showboat and have done extremely well on it the few times I've played.

Thank for the TR, sad to say but I do think SB has seen better days...We were big fans for a long while, but as you, have been unhappy with our recent stays..R4W

Seems HET is spending their $$ on Harrahs and Caesars. We used to frequent Bally's for a change of pace, but that too has seemed to go downhill, just looks old!

I have never stayed at Showboat, but have gambled there the past three years. I was just telling a friend the other day that when we go in November I am not even wasting my time at Showboat. It just seems dirty, load, and tight. I don't know why I kept giving it more tries because everytime I would walk out of there wishing I could have turned back time and gone somewhere else instead.

since this has turned into a "'boat bash" I have to agree that Harrahs & Caesars are definitely the places to go wrt HET. In fact, I see Uptown as the least desirable place to go of the four areas (Marina, Uptown, Midtown, Downbeach). I never liked the boat, don't care for the crowd (in general) at the Taj and though I usually have luck at Resorts, I'm not crazy about the atmosphere there either (although I should reserve judgement until I eat & sleep there once or twice). You got 11 or 12 places to go, you might as well stay at a place you have good vibes at. I would like to see another place Downbeach- I love the Hilton but like to hop around and that eats up more time than just going from WWW to Ballys to Caesars or SB to Resorts.

I agree with all of ya and Res4Wife's comment: I do think SB has seen better days (I AGREE 100%). Too bad I go on first impressions and the Boat let me down the room was bad like I said even for free/comp felt like we just wanted to go on to Casears. I am going to take Harrahs up on an offer later this year for a stay at the Marina Harrahs think we will have fun there. I have been there but have yet to do overnighter. I am like some of you a Boardwalk area fan MID boardwalk. Casears as we say "rocked"and we will be there later this month for 3 nights for my birthday and our 9th anniversary.

Nice TR report...the boat has seen better days but maybe with HET it will be the next on the list to update.

Trying to get 2 days off this month for a short run to AC...haven't been there during the summer in 4 years.

Good Luck!

BuffaloBillsFan,

The Penny Barn slots are made by IGT...penny slot machines sometimes tied in with the Fort Knox progressive.
