questions about las vegas

Hi, I posted a while back, asking if anyone from this forum had experience with het properties in las vegas. Well, we are here now. We are low diamond, haven't gambled much this past year (I"ve been ill, with a few operations), and just made our first trip to vegas. We were told that diamond was treated well here, by forum members, and by the desk person I spoke with when making my reservations. I must be doing something wrong. I requested a forum tower room, I saw some pictures of their classic rooms, and I didn't want to get stuck there. I know, my rooms are comped, and I shouldn't be picky, but I can't bear to sleep in old, yucky rooms. I asked the reservation agent about this, and she said, We never put our diamonds in those rooms.Well, lo and behold, guess where they were sticking us for 3 nights. I told my husband, forget it, I don't care if the rooms are free, I'm not sleeping in the worst rooms in the hotel, and I was ready to leave, and go pay somewhere else. All of a sudden, when my husband asked about taking care of the young man, assigning our rooms, we were placed in a nice room in the palace tower, and when my husband gave him 50 dollars to go by himself dinner, he made sure we were getting a nice room, for our 4th night, when we return here, after a short road trip around the area, next week. Were we wrong in thinking that diamond actually meant something here, or is it really just the way vegas works, tips buy your way.. Well anyway, the palace tower room is nice, and we are exhausted, after working half a day, and then the trip out here, but I'm sure my husband will start paying for this room, about 5 am our time, when he can get himself off the bed (lol).Any tips for us first timers in Vegas?... Thanks

That's pretty much the way things work out there -- tip for what you want. It's 100% a service industry there, even moreso than AC.

That said, I'm surprised they couldn't accomodate you as Diamond members. Last trip I took, I was Platinum, and the Flamingo still put me in a Go room (their upgraded rooms) without even asking. Perhaps it's a busy time for Caesars. I'm sure a lot of it depends who's checking you in, too... maybe they were just having a bad day.

Diamond in AC doesn't mean that much because everyone seems to be Diamond. Vegas is more of a tourist place, so Diamond will get you a lot further. But it's still up to the discretion of the person you're dealing with, of course.

Tips? Hell, I've got a ton of them, but the best one I can say is that there is no good video poker at any Harrahs Vegas properties until you reach the $5-$10 level... so if you want VP and you're at Caesars, take the free shuttle to Rio and walk next door to Gold Coast or the Palms. Either of those is your best bet nearby for VP. If you play Craps, pretty much every place except Harrahs properties offers 3x on the field on a 12, as well.

I love the Ghostbar at Palms, it's worth a trip if you like going to "trendy" places but don't want to go clubbing and deal with that crowd.

Learn the layout at Caesars 'cause I get lost there every single time.

Bally's Tequila Bar has a Patron-infused shot that is wonderful.

I could post stuff all night on this topic so I'm gonna stop now and let others take over.

Thank you, and yes, it's vp my husband loves. It was worth buying the young man dinner for the palace tower, from what I heard, the roman tower is as good as going to a motel 6. It's a shame though, I really thought as diamond we would be treated a little better. As I said , our play has been low this year due to illness, but I'm sure by tomorrow, my husband has his platinum set for next year, and after 4 nights, and 2 upcoming weekend stays at ac, we will probably get diamond sewn up, so I was disappointed, but all is well now.

I am sorry to hear that you were treated badly. We were just there at the end of Jan - beginning of Feb and were treated very well. Did you go to the diamond check-in desk? We asked for the Palace tower and were given a premiere room with 2 bath rooms with a bodet, jacuzzi and a connecting shower. We love the palace tower because it is so close to the pools.

We are going again in a week, but are staying at the Rio this time because we had a much better time playing there...we love Caesars but the machines are very tight. I hope the rest of your trip is great! Good luck!

I saw hotel registration, but not diamond check in. It looked like only one place for check in. I'll look around tomorrow.

There is a Diamond check in and a Platinum check in at Caesars. I'm Platinum and last time I went to Caesars and went to the regular checkin at 11am and they told me to come back after noon. Then I went to Platinum check in and they put me in an Augustus Tower room immediately. (I had reserved an Augustus tower room online.) Which room had you reserved when you booked?

I think a lot of it depends on when you get there and what clerk you get.

Make sure if you go to any of the buffets at Harrahs properties you look for the Diamond/Platinum line there too. The buffet at Paris is awesome, but usually has a 2+ hour wait, especially for Sunday brunch. I have never seen a wait there for the Diamond/Platinum line tho.

What kind of Vegas tips are you looking for? I could write you a book about good places to eat. :-)

I found the diamond check in. We were tired last night, and I should have asked about it. I guess the kid we got to check us in, wanted to make some money, because the palace tower all of a sudden had a room available, after my husband gave him 50. I reserved the forum tower rooms, and I called in the reservation about 2 months ago. I asked them if I could get stuck with the regular classic rooms, and they said, Oh no, we don't put our diamond members there, we put them in our newer towers and even upgrade them. The kid las night said our tier score was low, probably is, we haven't been playing much in the last few months, as I have been ill, but still, the worst rooms in the house? I think I'm going to walk over to diamond registration and ask about it. It irks me that even if my tier score is low right now, I'm here for 4 nights, we're diamond, they have to figure we are going to be playing. It left a bad taste in my mouth.

On a good note, for Ceasars Palace....I went to diamond registration, to ask why I was assigned such a bad room originally, and after numerous apologies, they comped me my dinner to make up for the dinner I had to buy the check in clerk. It's all petty stuff really, but it made me feel better, knowing that they cared to try and cleanse the bad taste from my mouth... even better, my husband is up so far, so hopefully our final donation, won't be too bad (lol).

We get treated great in Vegas with mini-suites at Flamingo and Calais at Paris. I think it all has to do with your ADT at each property. If you are Diamond in AC, they give you a bone in LV until they see how you play there. It worked that way for us and now they take care of us.

Is there still some 9/6 JOB at the Wynn at the $1 level? If you've never been over there, maybe take a walk, sign up, mention that you're diamond at harrah's and see what sort of attention that gets you. Also ask what the current promotion is regarding points and free buffets.

Good luck!
