Just back from Harrah's..few comments

Took a quick trip to Harrah's yesterday and stayed over until this morning. A few observations/comments:

Room: Was given a Bayview room at check-in and decided to try it out. The man at check-in said I would have to wait until 2pm for a Waterfront room. Got to the room and immediately realized the bed was not the Harrah's perfect sleeper. Went down to change the room and the woman at check-in said, "we have open waterfront rooms right now." Not exactly sure why there was a difference between the two people. In any case, Waterfront room was great as always.

Pool: Crowded on Saturday afternoon. Pretty much impossible to find a lounge chair, so ended up on the upper level which was fine.

Dinner: Decided to try Mccormick and Schmick's. I thought the food was just OK. Everything seemed a little greasy and definitely a bit overpriced for what it was. I had a steak that was overcooked. I think that if you are looking for a good peice of meat, the Steakhouse would be the better option here.

Casino: No luck whatsover. Didn't really get anything to play with. Saw many people losing. Some were even angry! One lady was literally banging the machine. I was very surprised she didnt break the screen! I did see some people winning though, but definitely not an exciting atmosphere by any stretch.

Crowds: Saturday night was somewhat busy. The pool was packed of course at night. All and all it didn't seem to be dead.

Hopefully my trip down for Valentine's day will yield some better luck!

Great mini TR. Sorry you didnt win. I play at Trop and the past two trips Ive got nothing. Both nights I was back up in the room by 9:30. One thing I have to comment on are the two different responces from the checkin receptionist. It really depends on the person you get. This one guy at the Trop I really don't like. He is a shorter man, he looks Filipino or Spanish.Very friendly but everytime he checks me in I never get the suite I want. I stayed in the same type of suite 4 trip in a row. Last month I went and he checked me in and like everyother time he checked me in, that suite was not avaliable.

Thank you for sharing your well rounded trip report. I'm sorry you had no luck in the casino, but now I know there is so much more to AC than just gambling and the beloved comp.

I hope you had an awesome sleep in that waterfront room!

Have a beautiful day!

It looks as if we had similar trips to Harrah's although my gambling results were mixed.

One thing I've learned from my trips to AC is that everyone working the front desk has a different answer. Sometimes the same people have different answers. Unfortunately.

Thanks for the TR. I was glad to hear Harrah's was crowded, every little bit helps the economy in the region. Sorry your gambling didn't pay off for you. Hopefully you'll have better luck next time.

Rather than start a new subject with my Trip Report, I thought that I would offer a different result of my visit to Harrah's this past weekend.

My wife and checked in mid day on Friday. We had a delightful clerk at the desk. We asked for, and received Waterfront room, with our requests for bed size, no smoking, etc honored. When offered a room on a low floor we asked to go higher and our request was immediately honored. I am a low level Diamond player, and did not offer any $ to the clerk.

Our room was perfect in every way. Everything was clean, all electronic things worked, etc. My wife wanted to rest for a while so I left for a visit to the casino. Played some Three Card Poker(lost), went

to Blackjack(got my money back), and then I played some machines to pay homage to the Tier Score gods.

After about an hour I was lucky to be about even.

I then waited in a line for about 15 minutes to get tickets for the Lobster Buffet. My wife then joined me and we played some Quick Hits together, getting

a buch of points and making a few dollars. We got seats at the Diamond Club bar and had some drinks before dinner. The buffet was very good. Although a lot of people were in attendance, things were handled very smoothly, and everyone around us seemed very pleased with their dinners.

After a little more machine time, my wife went to bed. I went to the tables. Three Card Poker(lost again), Blackjack(won again!). I thought I would finish my night at a Craps table. I got a spot at a $15 table right away and began playing. For about 30 minutes I never got chance to handle the dice. Some guy at the other end of the table just would not give them up. The way I play, this is very good for me. I bet the Pass Line, take full odds, and make Come bets and take full odds. I will bet nothing else. Midway through his roll, the rack in front of me was full of chips! Most of the players were not benefiting from this fellow's luck. Lots of money was being bet on the junk bets in the middle of the table. Every time the dice were thrown, the dealer would pay me anywhere from $75 to $110, but often take $500 and up off the "hard ways', "hop" bets, etc. When the shooter finally missed a point, there was a nice round of applause for him. I hope he was making the right bets to profit from his luck.

I went to bed knowing that I was going to go home a big winner.

On Saturday, I joined my wife for some machine time, and played Blackjack when she was resting. We had a great experience at McCormick & Smick's. We had a great waitress, and delicious flounder. Our lunch, however, would up being our dinner! I am a good eater, but that meal took care of me for the day.

Broke about even the rest of our trip, and came home Sunday evening with a big smile on my face. Today I will get to my favorite jewerly store and get my wife a nice momento of my lucky weekend.

Like others, I have noticed a decrease in cash back, offers, etc from Harrah's. However, I'm still pleased with comp rooms, enough comps to cover our meals, good drinks at DC, and mostly pleasant dealers.

As an afterthought, I have never, in at least 25 years, seen Harrah's as busy as if was on Sunday. They were giving away a cheap fleece jacket, but that would not have drawn this crowd. At 3:00PM there were over 100 people in line waiting to check in. I assumed there was some sort on convention starting. I was glad that I was not starting my visit on Sunday to "Avoid the crowds".

Thanks for the report on Harrah's,we're also looking at staying in a waterfront room.

Is it well situated and close to everything?

Waterfront Tower is near the pool, reflections Restaurant, Red Door Spa and Buffet, but not very close to the casino floor.

I stayed at the Taj this Sunday night and also found it very crowded, almost like a Sunday during the summer. There was a convention at the Taj but we were thinking it might also be because there was no football this weekend.

It was great reading both of your trip reports.
