Trump, say what?

I put together a family reunion bus trip every year, this will be our 6th year. Our dates are November 8-10, 2009. We thought we would try something new this year, so we got quotes through our bus company for the Taj. Although their deal was not as good as other hotels have given us in the past, we decided to give them a try. (We usually get in addition to our room accomodations, $20 in coin, at least one free buffet, and sometimes a show ticket for about $230 a person for 2 nights, 3 days). They were offering the room and $20 coin for $235 a person. I just got a call from my contact at the bus company to say that the Taj can not accept our trip, which is 10 rooms, because of lack of availability. This is where I have to be befuddled. The casino revenue is down, Trump has been rumored to be going into bankruptcy, and they are turning down 10 guaranteed rooms, for November? But here is the real kicker, they can accomodate us at the Plaza for the same price. I am sure they are both very nice hotels, but you can't tell me that the Taj is not a big step up from the Plaza with all they they offer, such as restaurants, casino size, etc. Just strange.

I think there's a BIG difference between the two casinos, but I've never stayed at either so I can't vouch for the rooms. Given the current status of Trump properties, I would reconsider booking any of them this far in advance. You'd be better off sticking with an HET property, or the Hilton or Trop. These days, it's had to tell who will still be around come November. I'd suggest Borgata but don't know if they allow any busses, even special charters. With business so bad, they should all be willing to work with you.

Good luck,

I don't understand that for a second. The dates arn't even a weekend. The Taj is a better property then the Plaza. I'd take my business somewhere else that would want it.

Plaza has a better location. Everything else is a way better in Taj.

It's very strange that they cannot accommodate you. Taj just built second hotel tower. May be they have some large event during your desired dates.

Don't accept Plaza instead of Taj.

Now that Trump casinos have declared bankruptcy, maybe they plan to close that new Taj tower that they can’t fill anyway?

And Trump casino penny stock is being kicked off the NASDAQ this week. Maybe we should consider chipping in to buy one of them when they hit 5 cents a share? Seems cheaper than paying for rooms. Anybody else interested?

The one thing which your post states is that you're planning for 11/8-10. I know that November 11th is veteran's day, which is a governmental /financial holiday, and given the proximity of AC to Wall Street, they may be trying to cater to those who want to go and make a trip for the 11th. I agree with others, maybe trying the others may be in your best interest.

I have seen Charter Busses dropping of people at Borgata. They use the surface lot entrance.

Lis- There are a lot of conventions in November, book somewhere else, and do it ASAP.

UPDATE: Decided to call the Taj directly and talk to the person in charge of overnight motorcoach trips. She was very kind and helpful. The reason that our request was denied is because they have a huge convention booked for that time that has been reserved for over 2 years. This makes me feel better. I also questioned her about the cost of the Plaza being the same as the Taj and was told that with the Plazas newly renovated rooms and casino, they put the two casinos at the same level. Having never stayed at both, what do you guys think? Also, in response to other replies, the Borgata is not an option. This group loves the Boardwalk and would not stay anywhere else. This leaves us with either the Hilton, the Tropicana, or the Trump Plaza. Caesars and Resorts don't accomodate bus trips, Bally's scares me because I can only assume that we will be put in the old Claridge tower, and Showboat is not a favorite of many people in this group - they don't like the atmosphere (and yes, some of them are older!!!!). We really don't want to stay at the Trop again. We stayed there last year for the first time and there were just so many bad things that everyoned is pretty much a no with that option. So, would you pick the Hilton or the Plaza?

based solely on location >>This group loves the Boardwalk and would not stay anywhere else<< Trump Plaza is in the center of everything. Hilton is just under 9/10 of a mile from Ceasar's Pier http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2585282

Both are smaller casinos, but they did have all the games you might want. Never had a bad room at the Plaza and the Hilton rooms are also OK, but Hilton is isolated at the end of the boardwalk, and might not still be open by November unless their economic situation changes. So the Plaza is your best bet. The biggest lack IN the Plaza is restaurants, but so many choices are close by. Good luck and have a fun trip.
