Trip report 06/18 to 06/21 (Harrah's)

Several weeks ago, I asked my Dad what he wanted to do for Father's Day and he said: "can we go to AC?" Emailed my host at Harrahs to set up the weekend.

Some background, I am a harrahs seven star who visits many of there properties throughout the year, but my home base is A/C. I play Video Poker ($1 and $5), the nickle and penny slotes and blackjack. Dad is a $0.25 VP player. And, Mom, well, we will get to in a moment.

FRIDAY// We left New York at about noon on Friday and after taking 45 minutes to get across town, we arrived in AC/Harrahs at about 3:30. Checking in at VIP services, my host had put us in two Atrium suites with connecting doors. Note, I had requested these suites as my Dad has a bit of a stiff knee, and long walks are a bit of a struggle and he WILL NOT use a cart. He likes that he can get off the elevator and go right to his video poker. I must say, I prefer the suites in the new tower.

By 4:30 mom was settled in front of the large flat screen watching the golf and dad and I hit the floor. Set up dad at his vp and off i went to play some vp of my own. Picked up my cash back and then it was up a little down, a little up,- a little down. Basically flat. Enough of that. I met mom and dad at the seven star lounge for drinks and a nibble before dinner at the seafood restaurant.

Dinner at McCormicks was excellent - oysters and the crab cakes for dad, a lobster for mom and the corn chowder and surf and turf for me. All with a great bottle of wine. After dinner, it was off to play again.

Again, set Dad up at VP with money in his machine from me (hey it was fathers day weekend). And, Mom asked to "play with me". Now, I love my mother, but she has absolutely no luck in the Casinos. I mean, she can put a twenty in a machine and do the a bunch of spins and not get a single hit. Case in point, we played a mermaid slot together, she gets the bonuse for 10 free spins and get a bonus of . . . ZERO. Thanks, right $0. With that, she was off to a movie in the room. And, I was free to play. And, I did nothing!! I felt like i was making a deposit to an ATM machine, and was not even getting a receipt back. Video Poker - nothering. Slots - nothing. One thing i have to learn is NOT TO CHASE the big win. Meaning if i am loosing don't think i can am going to get it back becasue a bonus is coming. Sat down at blackjack and the first two hands dealt by the dealer, gave her two back to back blackjacks. Enough! Off to the room at about 2:00 and to bed.

SATURDAY // 7:30 am I get woken up by a knock on my door with the arrival of breakfast. It seems, mom ordered breakfast for the three of us, giving my room number for the delivery. The waiter was pleasent and left the food in the warmer. As i went back to sleep - Mom and Dad were still asleep in there room. At a more reasonable hour - about 9:00 am / got up to mom and dad enjoying their breakfast. When i asked my mom why she ordered breakfast so early, she said, I thought we would be up. When I asked why did she have it delivered to my room, she said, if she and dad were not up, she did not want to wake dad. When asked why we did not order it when we woke up, she said that she did not want it to be late. Mother's logic is something that I never question. Nor do i understand.

After breakfast. I headed down to the pool for a quick dip and a soak in the jacuzzi. Boy, was i happy for that dome. As the weather was terrible.

Back to the room and get ready for the day and on to play! Again, set dad up at his VP - money in for him and then lost a couple fo 20's with mom - again she has no luck. But, i love her. Mom went to check out the shops and the golf.

And it was on to play. First, off to VP and settled in with a good cigar and a nice cup of coffee. Note about smoking in casinos. I think that Harrahs has done a nice job with the smoking and non smoking areas. Especially for those of us who like a good cigar. After about 20 minutes, got 4 2's for $2,000 - nice. I then decide to wander the floor and see if there are any new machines - slots to play. I thought the new machines available were light. Had no wins until i found a $0.05 moon machine that got me interested and after about 10 spins - hit for 50 free spins - NICE. Result a 1,600 hand pay. Feeling lucky, off to find a 100 play vp machine - asked an attendant and not only did she direct me to the machine, but escorted me to the machine. She even asked if i needed anything else after i got settled. I thanked her and tipped her (couple of bucks) which she was appreciative of, but i could not think of nicer service. Unfortunately, i did nothing on the machine. It was getting late in the day and with that, my phone rang, and mom was asking if she could go over to the ceaser pier, to shop. Said, sure. Checked in on dad, who was having no luck at the machines but was having a great time trying. Gave him a couple of dollars more to play with and mom and i headed over to Ceasers.

I dropped mom off, so she could shop, as i wanted to go over to Showboat to pick up the Wii entertainment system they were offering. Got to showboat a little before the give-away and decided to play a lttile, boy was that a mistake. Made a nice donation. I went upstairs to pick up my Wii and the line was HUGE. It started at the ballroom and went past the cafe. Crazy. I was about to leave, and ran into my host at Showboat, who asked me if i was going to get my Wii - and i said, not with that line. He said, follow me and took me to the seven star line, which had 8 people ahead of me. Got the Wii, and went to pick up Mom. Ride back to harrahs was interesting as it rained like crazy.

When we got back to the room, dad was sitting watching the tv, with a hugh grin on his face - he hit for 4 2's playing $0.25. It made his whole weekend. We got cleaned up and we headed out to dinner at the steakhouse.

The steakhouse was nuts. While waiting for the host (we got there at 7:30), we heard that the first available seating was at 10:30 - yikes. Seated, we had a wonderful meal highlighted by the great claims casino. I love that dish - I could make a meal out of two plates and a salad.

After dinner, dad headed off to find his lucky machine and I headed out to play a little more. Mom said she wanted to try and play on her own.

Went back to VP bar, cigar and a drink. Had a nice waitress who brought me a good drink, which resulted in a good tip. Was playing and got another 4 2's - nice. The attendant that came by was prompt and friendly. And, I said hope she comes back to visit. Tipped her and off i went to find other machines for some action. And got no where. One service note, the server who brought me a drink earlier stopped by with another one with out me ordering. Smart girl. Got he another good tip. My play was up, down, up and then down, down, down. i was looking to call it a night, when i tried a machine called cascading jewels - somthing like that. After about three spins, hit for what i thought was 15,000 credits that was 150,000 credits - NICE - $3,000 hit. Same attendant that paid me last time, paid me this time. I decided to take a shot on the $5 vp machine, playing $25 at a time. After some play got 4 spades, need the J of spades for the $20,000!! Hit the button and got the J of CLUBS!!! Ugh. It was a thrill though. Being that is was now 2:00 am, it was off to the room for a little rest.

SUNDAY // fortunately, mom order breakfast for their room, and i was able to sleep to a reasonable hour without interuptions. As a side note, learned in the am, that mom finally had a win. she turned $20 into $100 - yeah!!. May her bad luck was dad and I, need to remember that for next time. After breakfast we played for a little while, which was a mistake, because i could not hit anything.

All in all a profitable weekend for all - especially me (a rarity and that's why i wrote it up). But it was a great way to celebrate father's day.

What a really nice trip report!

For the little nuances of going with parents, it will be great memories for the future. You made me cry.

Thanks for posting the trip report. It reminded me of taking my mom to the casino years ago before she passed away. Sounds like you and your parents had a good time.

Loved your report.

I'm taking my mom in a couple of weeks, and she is not much luckier than yours. But, still...we will have a blast, I'm sure.

I'll use your story as inspiration!

Was playing 2's wild nearest to the cashier in the high limit room. I know mathamatically it is not the best game to play, but over the years i have had some nice wins - just on 2's.
