AC to NYC by train

My husband & I want to catch a train Wed 14 July around noon to go to NYC. Have any of you taken that train ride during the week. Should we reserve tickets in advance or buy them at the counter on that day? Any as access to promotion code or suggestions for cheapest way to buy the tickets (AAA, Costco, ...)? How far is the train station from the Tropicana Hotel?

NJTransit will get you from AC to Philly www.njtransit.com/var/var_servlet.srv… There are free shuttles to/from all casinos to/from the train station, ask at the front desk for pickup times and place, the train fare is $10 e/w

From Philly you'll need to use AMTRAK http://www.amtrak.com/ If you buy your tickets over 2 weeks in advance there is a discount. You may also buy your AC line NJTransti tickets through AMTRAK

The ACE train which goes directly from AC to NYC only travels on the weekend. As rship1 indicates, during the week you would have to take a train to Philly and then transfer. It may be simpler and more convenient to take a bus from AC.

Thanks for all the responses. I had not thought of the bus but I see it takes 2hrs less with no transfer. That might be what we decide to do. I have to look into it a bit more.

Looks like the bus is the idea for mid week. It's only 2 1/2 hrs with no transfers & it's $20 less for 2 people. In addition the schedule is much more flexible than the train. Thanks for the tip!

Mjoe there are many companies that offer buses.

I was referring to the hampton shuttle which is specific to Harrahs and Caesar - $50 roundtrip (sometimes can be comped) or $75 with a room overnight.

Thanks but The Hampton doesn't seem to do one way from AC to NYC. The NJ Transit does & it's $70 for both my husband & I. In addition our rooms are all booked up with friends at the Tropicana & they can't be changed.

So we'll stick with the NJ Transit.

Look into Greyhound or Academy buses as well.

Wow! Thanks ambrva1. With Greyhound I save another $20 if I book on line compare to the NJTransit fare. Now it looks like I'll be able to travel from AC to NYC in 2 1/2 hrs for only $50 for both my husband & I. Woohoo!
