My husband and I are coming to New York late August and are thinking of a day trip to Atlantic City.
We would be visiting on a Wednesday, is AC going to be a ghost town on a week day and what kind of minimum bets can I expect to find for BJ?

AC during the middle of the week is a bit more sparse than on weekends. Although summer mid week is better than winter midweek. Minimum bets on blackjack (and most table games) will be $10 per hand.
I have not been to AC this summer in early AM(5-8 AM) but do remember it was not unusual on weekdays to find $5 roulette and sometimes $5 BJ at the Trop. Later morning up to 11AM when the buses start arriving you could find table games at$10. After 11AM BJ was mostly $15 but roulette $10. The casinos always try to steer the players to their higher profit games- roulette,3 card poker, let it ride etc by making the limits lower than on craps and BJ.
You will also find some $5 tables at the Hilton on a weekday. I'm not sure about BJ, but definitely Let it Ride, 3-Card Poker, and Roulette. It will be pretty quiet there on a Weds afternoon.

We go up midweek 99% of the time. I don't enjoy the weekend crowds. Last week Taj and the boards were busy so you still have a good crowd and can sit at tables without a wait.
On the boardwalk the table limits during the day are usually $10 accept at Taj and Resorts we did see some $5 tables. On the marina side Trump has $5 tables all day and up til 8 pm at night. But for a day trip the boardwalk offers more variety.

You say you are coming late August mid week, watch out for the air show ( believe it is 8/25 with the practice run 8/24 this year ), the show is great but it does mean increased crowds in AC.
