For a number of years I was a Borgata red card player and received mailed offers of up to 2 nights a week (Su-Th) of comped rooms. Requests for weekend rooms were always rejected with the suggestion that "we need to see just a little bit more". I did that, stepping up my wagering to the point that I was earning 40-80 comp dollars each day ( Can't tell you how much "coin in". I know at the end of the day if I've won or lost, but I am not good at keeping track of "money in").
In the process I became a Black Card holder. Now I am sorry that I did. All of a sudden, my mid-week comp offers disappeared and my mailers invited to spend close to $200 a night for weeknight rooms that were previously gratis. I thought there was some mistake, but calls to the Borgata were of no help. I was told that "a little more" would be helpful.
Meanwhile, my red-card holding niece, who plays penny slots at a very modest level and earns about 200 comp dollars a year keeps getting offers for free (Su-Th) rooms. (I did not mention this when I called as I did not want to screw up her thing). From chatting with others in the casino, her situation is not unusual.
While the $10 buffet is a nice perk, it and free parking seem to be the sole benefits of having a Black card. I'd rather have a modestly priced room and pay full price for the buffet and parking. I prefer gambling at the Borg, but I get the feeling they'd rather I go elsewhere. Anybody else have experience with or suggestions about this?
