Discretionary Comps @ HET casinos

I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I don't know this. I've long assumed that my comps were just what the kiosks told me + whatever I got in the mail.

If I'm playing table games (or slots for that matter), can I ask for a comp? What sort of things can I ask for? Do they just pull the funds from my reward credits, or is this some speakeasy-type comp?

As I understand it, the only discretionary comps available in AC today come from your host. Do not believe the floor people have that authority, I may be wrong, I am not an expert by any means, but I believe the use of players cards has eliminated that perk, now everything is based on your ADT.

I do know that casino hosts get an alotment of discretionary comps ea month, these are usually distributed to their best customers, but they also save a few for their favorite customers, I always suck up to my host and it has been beneficial.

I was playing craps at Wild Wild West last month. The guy next to me asked for a comp pack of smokes. The pit boss asked for his total rewards card, which was gold. He checked it in the computer, and said he did not have enough credits for a free pack. I hope this helps, Fred

Generally speaking, HET hosts in AC do not have discretion - I know the Borgata hosts do. HET's policy is always to burn up your comps first and then maybe you'll get LFB or RFB. In New Orleans, HET hosts seem to be able to issue discretionary comps without touching your comp dollars.

Having said that, somehow I'm pretty sure that if you're a whale, the AC HET hosts suddenly have discretion!

I am LFB, I charge all meals to my room, and things not covered by LFB (Steakhouse, Buddakan, in room movies, in room wireless) are almost always comped anyway by my host, or in VIP checking out. So, she usually gives me 200-300 in discretionary comps per weekend trip. I am NO whale.

A few months ago, I really didn't play much, so I didn't want to ask her, and checked out on the TV in room (Balance was about 200). When my CC bill came, it was only for 35, just the tips, she went in and comped it without my asking, she rocks!

JerseyFrank asked on the New Orleans Forum if reward Comps are 1:1 in New Orleans in all "partner" restaurants, etc? I"m not sure, and want to throw this out to AC posters, DblJoker or AcMama, or anyone else that is becoming a regular down there...thanks "y'all".

The irony in all this is that the whales accrue so many comps, they are the least likely to 'run out' using them to pay for things. I know at the Hilton the total comps you can accrue caps out at 3,000. It would be really hard for me to spend that much in one trip (not that it wouldn't be fun trying!). Although I don't get anywhere near that, my host has always told me not to worry about running out of comps, he would still take care of me. I guess those would be at his discretion?

The partner restaurants in NOLA are at 2 for 1 on comps. Only a few restaurants are 1 for 1, such as Besh, the buffet, Bambu, Ruth Chris, and Grand Isle.

Barb, are you pulling your comps out first?

A few years ago the partner restaurants in NOLA were at 1 to 1, believe it changed to 2 to 1 April 1, 2009, we were there in March 2009 and were able to take advantage of the 1 to 1 at NOLA, great deal. Believe now it is just the restaurants on the Casino property that offer 1 to 1 ( Besh, Gordon Biersch, Chris Ruth, the buffet, etc.
