Funny thing waiting for a handpay!

was at showboat this weekend - stayed there to earn points for a bigger tv than the standard giveway - thought it mught take 3 days to earn it but was good 1st night LOL.

Anyways - thanks to UK I found the double gold machine in the high limit room and it was very nice to me this weekend - one check worthy handpay and I swear I won and lost the same 1200 over a few times. One time, Sunday just b4 lunch, I won the 1200 again - after I had put back the previous 1200, the area was hopping she said it would be a while. I wandered over to play WOF (watched a guy put no less than 3k in the 100 WOF machine to finally get a spin and win $4500) and kept watching for the girl to come back.

I look over - people stop to look and point of course - I swear some people sit in that area just to watch and never play - they run from one machine to another and jump like they were hit with a hot poker if someones bells go off,,,but I digress.

I look up and see an old man sit down at my machine - bells a ringing - stick his card in and sort of stare at it. I figured poor old guy ..........yeah right - start to cash out my tito and get up to go over and the slot lady comes out - old guy TRIED TO COLLECT MY JACKPOT! Are you kidding me? I hear the lady say but you're not says my 1st name are you with her? I walk over - old guy bolts - I ask if I heard right and she said yup he tried to steal your jackpot - I asked her to call security and they went after him but he blended into the parade crowd and was gone. Once at Harrahs someone stole my 7* card from the machine when I wandered off during a handpay.

So if you hit, just be careful - i never would have thought...........

I can understand your boredom while waiting for the handpay, I will almost always play another machine while waiting, but I never go too far away, just to the machine either next to my winning machine or the next one over and I never leave my card unattended

Sorry this happened, but PAY ATTENTION next time LOL

JD, you walked off while waiting for a handpay? You silly girl. You are supposed to play near by and listen to every little ding ding ding. BTW, when we finally meet I will do my impression of a winning slot! LOL

well, funny you should mention this...

because the same thing happened to me at bally's last night! and earlier in the evening, a different, equally bizarre thing happened at caesars.

i hit one of the $5 QH machines at caesars at about 12:30 AM monday morning. it was less than $1200, but it's a handpay, because the progressive has to get reset.

a woman of a certain age wanders over and strikes up a conversation; she's well dressed, does not appear indigent by any means, but i knew what was coming because this happens to me at caesars at least three times a night, especially in high limit, especially after hitting a jackpot.

i figured she would either be asking me if i wanted a "date" or asking me for money. based on her age, i figured it would be money. which is exactly what she wanted. i told her i couldn't help her out. she continued to sit at the adjacent machine, asked if there was a cocktail waitress, asked me how the machines worked and why i was getting paid if the symbols weren't on the pay line.

i get the handpay, i count my money, but the attendant neglects to remind me that i still have money on the machine... 11 credits = $55. well, you know the rest of the story... for the second time in the past couple of years, i walked away from a machine with money in it.

i realize it about thirty seconds later as i sit down at another machine, i went back to my original machine, there was nothing in it. then i go immediately to the bill breaker/redemption machine and she's there... on the screen i see that $55 is being dispensed. i say "i think that's my ticket you have there."

she said, "no, it isn't." i said "yes, it is." and then i screamed - and i mean SCREAMED for security. she said, "i thought you were being nice and left it for me."

security did not arrive (why does that not surprise me at caesars?), but a slot tech and an attendant arrived and then the perp got nervous and said "oh, here, just take it."

several hours later, i was fortunate enough to hit quad aces with kicker for 2K on the 9/5 DDB progressive bank at bally's (same machine had eaten me alive the day before, but this time i cashed out with all but $40 of my original stake, plus a check for 2K).

anyway, the safest time to leave your machine is actually when you're awaiting a handpay... nothing can happen! they know who hit, the attendant is not going to pay someone else and no credits can be cashed out of the machine while it's locked up. when the attendant returns, he or she often has your picture ID, plus your signature is required on the w2-G.

(besides, after sitting there for a couple of hours waiting to hit, i don't know about you, but i could use a, um, "comfort break." just sayin'.)

anyway, i came back and sat down at the deuces wild progressive bank nearby, i knew it would be a little while, since i had asked for a check. but i was keeping an eye on my DDB machine the whole time, waiting for the slot attendant to return.

same thing happened to me as happened to janedoeny X 3... in ten minutes, three people came by (individually), and each first looked to see if anyone was around (what, like they don't know about the cameras everywhere?) and then each hit the cash out button, attempting to get a TITO.

fortunately, the machines don't work that way! you can't get anything out of them while they're locked up.

when the attendant did return, as soon as she unlocked the machine and before i even took the check, i cashed out my TITO (it was over $600). normally, they like you to play off a jackpot hand, so somebody can't come up and say it's theirs, but i didn't do that. so there's apparently a whole form she has to fill out to document that (at least there is at bally's).

jane, are you playing the lone $5 double gold in high limit (jackson square) or are you playing the $1 double gold progressive machines in the carousel room?

Wow - I guess the old guy knew what he was doing. I agree with jerrysnj the very few times I won enough for a hand pay I didn't move a inch! I guess I was in shock!

my own experience has been that panhandlers, TITO opportunists and other scammers are in full force at bally's, caesars and trump plaza because of their central boardwalk locations.

i don't find these folks to be "working" as much at showboat, the hilton, the taj, etc, but clearly it does happen at the casinos at the edge of the boardwalk, too.

Ok not a SB regular UK - the high limit room is not the carousel room? I didnt see a $1 progressive double gold or or would have tried it. Where is the carousel room and where in it is that machine?

No guys I was not disparaging showboat - I thought since the machine was locked - my card was out - it was safe to wander within eyeshot of my machine - there were lots of handpays that night and I myself lost and one the same 1200 multiple times. It can happen anywhere!

Actually its kinda fun being 7* at SB - I was playing star trek - it kills or it pays there doesnt seem to be much middle ground - ended up with a $1300 handpay but plenty in first - the door apparently was loose - that happened at another machine once and the guy who came said push on the door so I did and the call attendent sign went off - a slot attendent came anyway and I hear 7* on the radio - she yells into it I'm here I got it and I explained and she left. A few minutes later it did it again - a guy came, then a girl then a slot technician - and I had fixed it b4 any arrived but they opened and slammed it shut for good measure. They were very attentive!
