TR (Dec 21 – Dec 24) -- (Borgata vs. Harrahs)

I stayed in AC from (Dec 21) to (Dec 24)

""if you don't have time to read the whole thing then please just skip till the last part where I compare Borgata and Harrahs based on my stay... ""

On Wednesday (21-Dec) I arrived at the Borgata at 2 pm ... Check in took 10 minutes.. The staff member was nice.. My room was on the 22nd floor.. It was nice, spacious and very clean... I stayed in my room for some time then went down and walked around the hotel since it was my first visit to the Borgata .. I bought food from Fatburger .. It was Ok and the price was good... I went to the pool which was nice looking, clean and not so crowded.. Then I gambled at the casino.. Well they have the biggest collection of new slot machines in AC... However, they don't have my favorite slot which is "hot hot penny" ... No big deal.. The casino was surprisingly crowded.. I didn't expect it to be crowded since it was a week day and not weekend... The machines were taking my money and giving literally nothing ... This is the first time ever that I play at a casino the whole night without even having one bonus round on any of the slot machines that I used.... Spent $200... I got asked for ID over 10 times by the security guys ... Well I am 22 but I look younger.. However getting asked for ID 10 times was really frustrating.. I went to the security office and got My hand stamped to prove that I am over 21 however the waitresses didn't trust that and asked me for ID .. At other casinos I get asked for ID once or twice but the Borgata security was really irritating.. I went back to my room.. I noticed some people sitting in the "Living Room" and using their laptops/tablets so I asked one of them and apparently the ground floor of the casino/hotel is supplied with Internet for free... The signal was named "guest" and it was fast and easy to access... I used the net on my tablet for quite a while .. The WiFi connection was a real surprise since all the other casinos in AC don't provide any free net connection....

My Sister joined me on Thursday (22-Dec)… We went to the Walk Mall which is where we spent the morning then we went to the Pier Shops… We ate there at the Continental… The food was good.. Then we went back to the Borgara… Used my tablet at the Living room.. Went to the pool and then went to the Comedy Show at the Borgata … I had two comp tickets … The three comedians were funny… After that, I played at the casino… Money went up and down and ended up losing $60.

On Friday (23-Dec) I left the Borgata.. The check out was not so fast but ok. I headed to Harrahs … I had a reservation for one night … Check in was ok… I stayed in the Waterfront tower on the 17 floor… I put my stuff in the room and then walked to the Golden Nugget to check the “Transformation” … Well GN was definitely looking better but at the same time not very pleasant to stay in due to the intensive constructions… The air was really bad that I had problems breathing (Well I do have asthma).. I ate at Michael Patricks … their food was good but took extremely long time for the waitress to bring my food… The casino look much nicer but feels so small after the changes that they made.. anyway, I think the changes are great… After that I went back to Harrahs. Decided to go to the pool but it was closed for no reason and without even notifying me at the time of making the reservation … That annoyed me somehow… Also there was no “Pool After Dark” that night.. The casino was nice but very crowded (Well Friday night).. The slots were somehow loose but I still ended up losing $90 but it took me some long time to lose that much. I got some free drinks… Only the drinks server asked me for ID this time… No free wifi at Harrahs…

On December 24, I checked out of Harrahs and headed home…

Overall, The Borgata security guys were not as nice as those at Harrahs... also the machines were tight at Borgata as compared to Harrahs... On the other hand, Borgata is a much better place as compared to Harrahs. There were a lot more slot machines at the Borgata than at Harrahs. The people staying/playing at the Borgata looked much better to me than the people at Harrahs… The rooms were really nice in both but I felt safer at the Borgata than at Harrahs.. The Free WIFI was the best SURPRISE at the Borgata… The pool at the Borgata was open while at Harrahs it was closed !! The charges for complimentary two nights at Borgata were $10 (5 per night) while the charges for one complimentary night at Harrahs were $13 … I don’t even know why!!!

I would give 9 out of 10 to Borgata and 7 out of 10 to Harrahs…

It's funny. I've never stayed in the Borgata but have gone to many concerts there. I don't gamble there any more. Like you on your first day, I found the slots to be frustrating. Intellectually, I know there is probably no reason other than it wasn't my time to win but just feeding machines is annoying.

But, it is a beautiful place. I've stayed in Harrah's twice. I liked it just fine but...I prefer the boardwalk.

Maybe next trip, I'll give the Borg another chance with my gambling moneyl

enjoyed your trip report and comparissons - I agree with some of what you wrote...I do think the rooms are equal-depending on what tower you stayed in.. and do feel safer at night in Borg as far as going to the room... I think Harrahs is more fun for slot play.

Thanks for your report.

Having the security guard check keys at the entrance to the "Living Room" and room elevators at Borg is an important difference. Of course, it's not foolproof, but it's much better security for going to your room than I've seen at the other AC hotel/casinos (altho haven't been to all). And I agree the Living Room, for people watching, reading and free wifi is another valuable feature.

I really like the Borgata food court. Like many others here, I'm also a fan of the Living Room. Over time, I find myself spending more and more time at the Marina casinos. Overall, I'm a big fan of just about everything about the Borgata, I think Harrahs has a fun and exciting atmosphere, and I'm liking the renovated rooms at the Nugget (not to mention the lower table limits and solid drink service there).

I agree that the Borgata has "tight" slot machines. Also the Borgata has the most attractive cocktail waitresses in AC.
