Not excited for most trips to AC but this one I was! I haven't been down to my happy place since mid-November and couldn't wait just to relax for the weekend. This weekend would be me, gf, best friend j and his gf, a.
Left Hartford bright and early at 6:30am Friday and got to NYC around 9. Quick stop Downtown to say hello to former colleagues and off to SI to visit Mom before we'd leave for AC at 4ish. J would be the driver this trip (totally beats the train or bus!)
Got down to Harrah's a little before 6. Check in was quick on the Platinum line. Booked Marina 2 beds, comped for the weekend. Upon check-in the very nice clerk informed me we'd like the Bayview better and upgraded us there for no fee. Room was nice, bathroom impressive. TV old but I think we turned it on twice the whole trip.
GF (a hair stylist) is talked into doing A's hair so J and I head down to the casino. We settle on a $15 single deck game where we both hold our own. Cocktail service is good and we get about 3 beers in before leaving that table about even. I find a 4 card table and J watches me play for a little. The dealer was hot. And not hot in the good way like the Pool at Harrah's BJ dealers (more on that later!)...deposited $500 in no time there. Over to 3 card where I buy in for $300. It is a $5 table and I'm playing $5. J decides to give it a shot and buys in for $40. He gets the typical beginners luck and starts hitting huge on the 6 card bonus. He's only playing $5 on it but back to back hands gets 4 of a kind followed by a full house ($150+100). We play for about half an hour before I lose my buy in and J colors up for $380.
Not to happy at that point about being down $800 in my first few hours. :(
Up to the room and we need to decide on a dinner choice. Best part about going to AC with J and A is they aren't cheap as are most of my recent college grad friends. With this couple we normally get a few nice dinners in each trip. J says he's buying as I'm down $. We decide on Izakaya at Borg. Everyone gets ready and off we go. At that point it's about 9. Food was delish. I think I've mentioned them before but the Philly Cheesesteak Dumplings are amazing. Add in a few cocktails and dinner was cheap at $120 for 4 including tip.
Off to slots where I drop $300 in about 3 minutes in my $1 Lobstermania. Followed by another $100 in American Idol (not including my $50 slot dollars!). This trip was starting off horrible!
We walk around a bit where I finally make a HUGE comeback! I walk up to a $10 Let it Ride table and buy in for $200. I was playing $15 on each bet plus $15 on the 3 card bonus and a buck on the insurance bet. Long story short I'm down to $32 left in chips. I put $10 on each spot, skip the 3 card bonus, $1 on the insurance and $1 above my $10 bet as a dealer bet. What do you know.....I open my cards and I get trip 9's. I show the table and dealer and they are all yelling about me skipping the three card bet. We laugh for a second when the dealer then turns over the first card....a 9. I just hit 4 of a kind! $1500 on the straight bets plus $400 on the insurance. At that point not having the extra $300 from the 3CBonus doesn't hurt as bad! Leave the table with $1700 up $1500 for the table and now in the green for the trip by about $300.
We go to BBar and I'm buying drinks. Well I got my drinks comped as I was playing $1 JOB. And, it was 9/6! Shots, beer, mixed drinks...we over drank. Decide to play some craps where I play for about an hour trying to explain the game to John and A. They have no clue! Oh well! Cocktail service was great and the waitress was bringing rounds for all 4 of us even though I was clearly the only one playing (although tipping her nicely.) Leave the table about even and we head back to Harrah's. Fun Fact: Amanda was able to check her heels at the belldesk at Borgata (she carries portable flats in her purse). The bellman simply put her heels in a bag and handed her the ticket. Pretty cool I thought.
Back at Harrah's J and A retire and GF and I head to HL BJ. $50 table. Buy in for $1k. Up and down for about a half hour when GF says she's off to bed. I say goodnight and keep playing :). I notice about an hour into the table there hasn't been a single waitress. They send one over finally. Luck went down hill and I'm off to bed down about $500 for the trip.
Saturday up next....To be continued.

We wake up around 11:30. I'm told I stumbled in around 5:30 telling everyone how much I loved them....news to me....
Today we needed to head over to the Walk where I promised GF a Coach bag last night after winning the big hand at LIR. Too bad I don't have that win anymore :( but I'll stick to my word :)
Myself, GF and J get ready. A still a little too hungover to even consider going out. We're out of the room by almost 1 and I'm starving. We taxi over to Bally's. Lunch at 6ix. Kind of disappointed in both service and food quality. J said Prime Rib special was good though.
Off to the Walk where we find Coach....got distracted at other stores along the way. Once finally in Coach they're handing out 30% off your total, no restrictions at the door. SWEET! The damage won't be so bad. Got a $400 purse plus $80 iPad cover for her for under $200 as the purse was on sale.
Amanda calls and she's getting ready. Back at the room about 5 where its time for dinner selection. We decide on Dos Cominos. But, before that, I log on to TA to search the forum to see if they accept comps. Such a great resource! They do at 2:1. No biggie, I decide we'll pay cash. No dice! Fully booked for the evening upon calling. Move on to Luke Palladinos and we get a reservation for 7:00. Order a bucket of beer from room service ($30) and we're getting ready.
Downstairs by 6:45 to pick up our reduced admission tickets to the Pool for the Diddy event. Get the tickets and find Luke Palladino. Liked the restaurant decor. I guess I was the only one in the mood for wine and a bottle of house Pinot is sitting next to me (a reasonable $45). For table appetizers we order the fried calamari and the pruscuitto and salami platter. Pretty good. A orders a salad, GF orders a pasta boglonese and J and me order the same - pasta al forno. Nobody is overly impressed. it was just okay. We loved the atmosphere and service but food was a little "blah". But, I was great after a bottle plus of wine!
Doors for Diddy opened at 8 and we go up to the room quickly to freshen up and are at the Pool by 9. $35 cover and our reduced admission tickets saved us a whole $5. I find my way up to "The Loft" where the new blackjack tables are. They're are about 6 of them. 2 - full $15 games, 3 - empty $25 games and 1 - $100 table with a sign that says "Reserved for Diddy". Clearly I take the table right next to Diddy's table. Word has it he will arrive at midnight. I buy in for $800 and play for at least 3 hours only down a few hundred. By the way, free drinks for players from the waitress! It's now 12:30 and I start losing and they're's still no Diddy. I color up down more than half.
Just a quick review of BJ at the Pool: LOVED it! Great music, attractive dealers who were personable, standard BJ rules (3:2 on naturals, H17) and free drinks! I do feel that if you are going to play up there, they're should not be a cover charge though.
We stand around for a while hoping to see the big man himself but give up at 1:30 as he still hasn't shown.
I'm in no condition by J and A convince us to go to Borg to meet up with one of A's friends. We get there and I go to BJ where I manage to lose the remainder of my bankroll.
Couldn't tell you how long we were there but we left at some point and head back to Harrah's and off to bed.
Woke up the next morning and reminisced about the previous evening. All I can say is LOL :)
Overall, the most fun AC trip since the summer. For some reason the CT casinos don't seem to do it for me like AC does. We all had a great time and I can't wait to head back on Feb 3.
Did I win? No. But I got play and that's most of the fun. Earned about 1,100 tier points which would keep me on track for diamond if I can have a little luck here and there.
Thanks for reading and good luck to you guys on future trips!
Thoroughly enjoyed your TR and I am surprised you remembered so much of it. You sound like a generous, fun-loving guy, and I am glad you got upgraded to Bayview.
Do you know if the Big Man ever showed up after all that?
Thanks for posting.
Great TR, I'm curious if he ever showed up as well. There had to be a few upset people who paid money and waited that long for someone who didn't show by 1:30.Edited: 11 January 2012, 13:33
Thank you both for your comments.
Yes, Mr. Diddy showed up. We found out from friends who were also there he did an appearance downstairs shortly before 2 and came up to the blackjack tables at 'The Loft' around 2:30.
I was a little upset as they opened the club at 8:00pm in anticipation for him being there around midnight and he doesn't show up 'til 2?
I still had a blast so it wasn't that upsetting :)
Thanks for posting - sounds like you all had a great time. Hopefully next time you'll come back a winner.
Thanks! I have a good feeling the next trip will be a winner. It's due!
Nice report! I would be ticked about Diddy, too. I don't have the patience for people to just stroll on in at any time they feel like it. I would have expected him to be there at 9! LOL I guess that's why I don't go to those things those, I'd be disappointed every time.
I was there last year was it the 4th of July when he didnt show up and it was near riot conditions
Nice report, thanks.
