Harrah's wifi

We really enjoy going to Harrah's. The pool can't be beat. It makes for a great getaway in the cold winter months. That being said, one thing that grates on me is the high cost of wifi access at the hotel. I believe it is $10 a day, and if all you want to do is check some email, that is a bit steep compared to most hotels (not casinos) that do not even charge. There are no other networks to hop on when in the hotel, so you are a captive audience.

Not so much a question, more of a mild rant. I feel better now.

This is a big travel pet peeve of mine. I can get free wi-fi and free breakfast with a $59 room at the Holiday Inn Express but with a $200 room at the Marriott, they want to charge me for internet and breakfast.

$10/day, or any charge at all for that matter, is unacceptable in today's wired society when virtually everyone travels with some wireless device whether it be a laptop, iPad or smart phone. Wi-fi should be included. If that means bumping up the room price a dollar or two, so be it, but don't nickel and dime people for it.

Marriott does not charge for Wifi internet, or in-room wired internet (wireless not yet available in tower, but wireless will be in the tower shortly and it too will be complimentary ~ just wanted to clarify that. You only have to pay if you want a faster service - (to download music, movies) but the complimentary access really is fast enough for basic browsing.

Sorry, I wasn't referring to any specific hotel when I said "Marriott". I meant that more as a full -service hotel vs. a budget property. I've encountered a few times when traveling that the more costly hotels are the ones that are most likely to charge for things that the cheap places include in the much lower room rates.

I, too, find charging for access in this day and age is ANNOYING. Boo! Hiss!

But what about the folks who have no need for the service and don't really care to subsidise your use of it? Besides how many really care any more with smart phones and 3G tablets?

I think Harrah's is actually $11.95 and my previous experience with it is fairly SLOW. Like try loading a YouTube video and have to wait for it load slow! For $11.95 you would expect more speed.

Now at the Golden Nugget the WiFi was crazy fast and when I stayed it was free, however I heard they are now charging as well.

I hear you!!

Thankfully I upgrade about two months ago to a smart phone. The really great feature is that is has an option to turn it into a mobile hotspot so any place I need to go, as long as I have a signal I can also surf the net on a regular computer as opposed to just the phone itself.

The reality is that any casino property is going to charge you. They want you in their casino and not on the internet. This is true at any casino property I've stayed at (even outside of Atlantic City) with one exception. Mount Airy Casino in PA now offers free internet access. Too bad it wasn't offered when I stayed there years ago!

I dunno if I follow that logic sue - 7* get free internet in the room/hotel with a room charge (free wifi in 7* lounge no room charge needed) and free movies - you would think they would want us in the casino.

tpoid you could also check at the 24 hr self serve "business center" near the 3rd floor ballrooms it might be cheaper to do a quick email check there
