Changes for the worst at Bally's

Having stayed at Bally's last year, and had a great time....I was in the area and decided to stay the night....I'll have to rethink that next year....first of all, a fee to use the pool.... secondly a ten dollar occupancy fee.... thirdly, $15 min tables on a Thursday night, and then they all changed to $5 min-bets which makes small time gamblers money harder to hit....lastly, you had to be a platnum card holder to get a Heineken (you were left with the domestic selections)....I could get one during the day, but it changed at night. As far as I can remember, these were all changes from the way it was last year.

i used to be a Bally (aka the Big B) regular years ago and still on occasion would stay a night because i wanted to be on the boardwalk, and i'll always remember the enjoyable weekends there with family, but it has been going downhill now for years.

Once they closed one of my favorite restaurants there, the Gold Rush, I am rarely in there other than to exchange the slot coupons from Greyhound or to catch a bus to return to NY.

i didn't mind paying for access to the pool, and the last time i was there for a night, sometime last winter, they had a policy of no kids in mid-afternoon, which made the experience a lot more quiet and relaxing and i'd pay for that anytime.

i've read where there are areas in the Wild West that are just boarded up and one has to wonder what they have in mind for the future of Bally's.

It appears that CET may be taking some steps to improve Ballys. Some of the people in this forum informed us not too long ago that they had received a survey regarding their opinions/experiences at CET properties, especially Ballys.

Hopefully CET will evaluate the results and improve the overall customer experience at their properties--Ballys, in particular, since that seems to be where the focus of the survey was. Based on location alone, Ballys has so much potential...at least we know that in recent history CET has been seeking some customer feedback regarding how to improve the property. Now let's see what happens in the next few months...

Refering to the $5 bets...in was on the roulette table...you had to place at least $5 on one spot, with $15 min bet. So that means $5 on three spots min. I guess I could understand that logic if all the tables were full, and all of them running, but....half the tables were running and most had seats....this was also at midnight on a Thursday night. Needless to say, when my table changed, I left.

I honestly cannot find anything appealing about Bally's. So many places to day in AC...I have no idea what the draw is to this place.

And one more thing....if Bally's and all the other casinos want to make AC more appealing...bring in more top shelf entertainment during the week, make the weekend room rates more affordable.

What I don't understand....with more and more casinos going up around the country you would think the competition would make things more affordable, instead they still charge over $200 for what is a Motel 6 room quality. Lets face it....there are only so many gambling $$$$ to go around....if you scare off the casual gamblers like myself, aren't you biting off the hand that feeds you?

Strong fan of CET, but cannot understand for the life of me why they allowed this to happen to Bally's. I believe they are looking at options, but they have upset so many people that may never come back, they damage the location and brand everyday.

I also have good memories of Ballys, the Claridge and the WWW. From a good steak at the Twenties, a good cafe in the Garden Cafe and even late night drunken Chinese at Wok & Roll.

I hope they do something soon.

Last week at Bally's they charged a $5 parking fee for valet for Platinum card holders. Never paid that before even when Bally's was worth visiting.

woody allen in the opening of his 1977 film "annie hall" says this, which reminds me a lot of how many people seem to think about bally's:

“there’s an old joke... um… two elderly women are at a catskill mountain resort, and one of ‘em says, ‘boy, the food at this place is really terrible.’ the other one says, ‘yeah, I know; and such small portions.'"
