Ballys - should I be concerned?

We are staying at Ballys Aug 11-18 and I'm getting a little concerned about all the negative reviews.

We stayed for a week last summer and also Superbowl weekend at Bally's with no issues but it seems every review I read now is not good at all. Our reservation is for a Dennis Luxury double room.

The majority of our gambling will be done at night after our daughter goes to bed my husband and I will switch off going to the casino. I like to go to the Wild Wild West, am I reading correctly that there are no longer slot machines in the WWW?

I'm wondering if I should switch over to Caesars but I know they will be alot more expensive and having just returned from a Disney cruise yesterday I'm not looking to spend any additional on the room for our AC vacation.

When we were there superbowl weekend the bartender at Harry's Oyster told us they were expanding the outdoor area, does anyone know if that has been completed?

If you just booked a Classic room, the answer is YES. You will be placed in the Claridge and will not be happy. Even a regular room at Caesars will probably put you in the Temple without an outside window.

Only way to get a better room is to book it at the higher rate and fight for it when checking in, with paperwork showing you paid for the better room.

I would recommend changing your reservation. Spend a little more $ and youll be much happier in the end. They really have let the property go. I would have no reason at all to go to the casino let alone the hotel. Ceasers is the best option is you want to be in that location. Have you considered Showboat? Just a suggestion, I have never had a issue there.

If you paid for a dennis room you should get hopefully get a dennis room. If not fuss big time. However, room types are not guaranteed - if you are a comp you are at their mercy.

Ballys pros - mid boardwalk, close to the walk outlets, pier shops

beach bar

steakhouse quite good

Gerties is good for quick bite, coffee

connects to caesar

rooms - ballys tower, dennis, garden all fine

table limits usually decent

Mountain Bar

Blue Martini bar

Pickles, Johnny Rockets

Nice diamond lounge (diamond level [players)

harrys oyster bar (now reportedly serves breakfast)

nice indoor pool and outdoor sundeck

Cons - Claridge, claridge

Six

some issues with panhandlers, homeless

Construction at WWW - minimal gaming

$10 fee to use pool

I just put in a random search (not using my account at all...so, no "comps" were factored in). For a Deluxe double room at Ceasears, it's just about the same as what you would be paying for the Bally's Dennis Luxury ($10 more, or $50 more if you want two beds). That would probably mean the Temple Tower (which I have no issue with but some do...mostly because of the lack of a window to the outside world. Their windows usually face the hotel lobby). If you wanted to stay in their Luxury rooms, it's less than $200 more for the whole stay, from what I can see. (It's the weekends that are killing you here, rate-wise).

Showboat is actually cheaper than the stay you booked, from today's rates, anyway.

Definitely go on their website and check it out, and definitely use your Total Rewards number, if you have one. Even if you haven't stayed in a long time...I usually find some "discount" avaiable by plugging in number.

Appreciate all the feedback. I think when I get home tonight I will check out the prices at Caesars and Showboat. We do often get offers for comped rooms but not during the summer months.

When we first started going to AC in the summer we always stayed at Showboat as it was less expensive but we always ended up walking down to be around the Bally's/Caesars area.

We spend our days on the beach so love setting up camp in front of Bally's Beach Bar so we can grab some drinks and use the bathroom. Does the new Revel have a beach bar or does the Showboat have one now.

I have no problem walking the boardwalk at night down to the pier shops or other places for dinner but is kind of a pain to walk down their & back every day with beach stuff.

I was just at Bally's....my problems were not the rooms, although I was just there one night....I stayed in the Claridge Tower, and found the room clean, and had an excellent ocean view. To see my beefs go back a page and see the topic : Changes for the worst at Bally's.

I don't get comped rooms in the summer, either (well, I take that back. I think mid-week, I can get something in Harrahs, if I want, but definitely not Caesars).

But, that search I did? I did it again using my total rewards number and the prices went down by a lot. So, give it a go!

If you paid for a room in the Dennis and you were happy there in the past, I don't think you'll have any problems. Just make sure to bring your reservation showing that's what you paid for. Most of the complaints are about the Claridge, although I also hear many people say those rooms are fine. Personally we've had some nice rooms there but I don't like the location or the party crowd on weekends (and possibly weekdays in summer).

I think janedoeny hit it on the head with her pros and cons. I also find most of the workers there to be friendly and helpful.

Mcamp's issues were mostly the roulette table and drink service. Recently I've seen many $5 LIR, 3 and 4-card tables even on Fri and Sat. Drink service is usually based on tier for premium.drinks although with some servers tips can go a long way.

I think Showboat has opened a bar on the boardwalk but not sure you are allowed to take drinks to the beach. Revel's bar will not open until next year afaik.

I wouldn't be worried. You paid for a Dennis so you shouldn't have a problem getting one. If they try any funny business kindly point out what you reserved and don't settle for anything less. 99% of the time they're lying when they say they don't have any rooms available besides the Claridge. Just don't settle.

I wouldn't switch to Caesars if you're only going to be booking a deluxe there. The Dennis, Garden and Bally's Towers are all nicer than the Temple Tower.
