local fresh seafood available?

Is there any area near AC where I can pick up local fresh seafood to cook, or precooked?

I will be touring the area mid November and love to catch a local fish shop or deli with area specialties. Still have fond memories of the Portugese chowders and fresh fish and chips available in Newport RI. Anything between Cape May and Tom's River might interest me.

My two favorites are Barbera Seafood right in AC and Bob's Seafood in Absecon. Both have fresh local seafood and both have cook to order menus. Barbera Seafood has little tables outdoors next door in a park to eat and Bob's Seafood has booths indoors. BTW, Bob's has excellent lobster bisque

Well, I might drive to Cape May, but I'm thinking it might be pretty quiet. I usually don't need much of an excuse to head in a direction. Can you recommend it off season?

If the first frost hasn't hit the shoreline, there will be lotsa monarch butterflies migrating all down the coast. And there is a butterfly garden in Cape May right by the lighthouse.... wait, I MEANT to tell you about Lobster House http://shop.thelobsterhouse.com/ They have a great fresh seafood shop onsite, and they used to sell the best smoked bluefish. But I am unsure if they still sell it and I don't want to send you there for something that may or may not be there. Also, the Raw Bar [indoor/outdoor dining room] is closed by November, I find the restaurant higher priced for the same stuff, so I don't want you to drive 35+mi e/w for something they may or may not have. But if you do make it, their shrimp melt [lunch only in the restaurant] is great, you'll find yourself buying shrimp to take out afterwards

perfect. Thanks for the Cape May tips and the factory tip for Wildwood.

Frost? Okay, it is November. I read somewhere the average temp for November was about 45F. Guess that might be so. I don't know what to expect, but I'll bring layers, and a few good books in case lazing and reading is the best option for the week.

Too bad you can’t come in September for the AC Seafood Festival.

If you can get over to Ocean City, maybe check this place.

Sorry! As noted above Bob’s seafood just off route 30 near AC is probably your best bet.

Not along the shore but if you do drive near Philly, maybe check NJ Shellfish

If you make it over to the Smithville or Wildlife Refuge area, you might want to try the Oyster Creek Inn, but reviews are mixed.

Here is a monthly guide for Forsythe fws.gov/northeast/…seasonal_guide.html It's only $4 entry fee and has an 8 mile drive. And Oyster Creek has limited hours that time of year, I suggest to call to ensure they're open http://www.oystercreekinnnj.com/ and their crabroom is not open. It's not a searfood market it's a restaurant
