Getting to Newark

So we have a bus booked on mega bus to get from NYC to Atlantic City for 2 nights. It automatically is a round trip ticket (just pick when we want to leave within the 4 days)

However, we will be flying out of Newark Airport on our way back. So we want to stay our last night in Newark...

Can anyone recommend the best way to get there from Atlantic City? Would we take the greyhound?

Or would it be silly to take our return mega bus ticket back to Manhattan THEN make our way to Newark?

Going back to Manhattan and then taking a train/bus to Newark may actually be simpler. There are buses at Port Authority that goes to Newark. You can also take the train from Penn Station.

Not silly at all. In fact, you don't really need to stay the night in Newark, as there are trains from NY Penn Station that take you directly to the airport in a fairly short time (plus a couple of bus options too).

I disagree with don. You are leaving New Jersey just to go back to NJ in his plan.

You can try to map out how long it will take from AC to Newark on NJ Transit (#319) on NJ Transit trip planner. With stops it would probably take about 3 hours.

www.njtransit.com/sf/sf_servlet.srv…

On Academy (Megabus), it usually takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes to 2 hours and a half from AC to Port Authority (NYC), depending on what time you travel. If considering taking the airtrain from Penn Station (NYC), you would have to take the subway one stop from Port Authority to Penn Station and take the train, which usually takes less than half an hour. The tripplanner site above would also detail your itinerary on the airtrain.

There are also several buses you could take at Port Authority, which would take less than an hour.

Go to NYC

Catch the NJ transit North Jersey Coast Line (make sure it is a run that stops at NWK). From Penn Station NY

Easier than any other way IMHO

there is no easy way to get from atlantic city to newark airport, short of renting a car.

it may seem counterintuitive, but it is much simpler - and most likely cheaper - to go back to new york and then take a bus to newark from the port authority bus terminal, which is exactly where you'll arrive after returning from atlantic city. again, it's counterintuitive, but because of the way schedules connect for alternative transportation, going back to new york and taking another bus will most likely be quicker.

The OP may not know this, but you can literally see NYC across the river while standing at Newark Airport. It's not far. In addition, they mentioned staying overnight in Newark prior to their flight. We don't know what time their flight is (and if it's really early morning it might be a factor) but in general for someone dragging luggage and without a car, it's going to be MUCH easier to stay the night in Manhattan after returning from AC and then going to the airport via train from there.

I Agree, Whatever you decide, it is very easy to get to Newark Airport from Manhattan via train/monorail. Keep in mind the ticket on Mega bus may be paid for which is an additional savings!
