Thanksgiving TR

Short TR of our Thanksgiving stay. Me, my two sisters, and our parents usually spend two or three days in AC for Thanksgiving. This year my parents stayed Wed/Thu and my sisters and I stayed through Friday. We'd initially booked Resorts but then someone posted a good deal for Tropicana on here (the one w/the $20 per day breakfast credit) so we switched it there.

We got in before 4 and we were able to check in with no wait. They put both of us in the West Tower and both rooms were the updated ones (3510 and 4716). For those wondering, the updates aren't full on renovations, but are more cosmetic. Still 90% than what was there before, though. New paint, laminate hardwood floors, flat screen TVs. I'm still not fond of the bathroom.

Most of our time was spent in Tropicana. We normally like to get out and explore but it was too friggin cold. We left once and that was Thanksgiving to go to the Caesars buffet (I put that experience in another post). Anyway, Trop is big enough that we weren't bored. We did some slots but no big wins. My mom even tried her hand at VP for the first time. She said she had no idea what she was doing but had fun lol.

The $20 breakfast credit (per day/per room) was good for the buffet or the Seaside Cafe. The buffet wasn't open until Friday, so we did the cafe. Service was fine. Food was fine. It was breakfast. But the food credits (they allowed us to combine on one bill) were great w/5 of us. Other places we ate/drank were Broadway Burger Bar (both the meat eaters and vegetarians were pleased), Casa Taco & Tequila Bar, Chickie's & Pete's, Firewaters ($5 Long Island Iced Tea FTW!), and Tango Lounge. I highly suggest the $2 tacos and $6 margaritas during happy hour at Casa. And we made our usual stops at Zetyinia for random things and Lick for cheap(er) water.

Tropicana was busy Wednesday, busy Thursday, and packed on Friday. It was nice to see so many people. We went last year shortly after Sandy and it was a huge difference. So another successful Thanksgiving trip and we'll be back...sometime. We don't really plan.

Thanks for the trip report. It sounds like a nice family visit to AC. The Trop does offer so many places to eat or drink, probably more than any casino in town and you made it to so many of them on this visit.

Did you ask for a renovated west tower room or did they put you in one without asking? Seems like with the different floors with renovated rooms I wonder if they did the whole tower.

>>$5 Long Island Iced Tea<< Geez. That's much better than 99¢ store Appletinis. Because the 99¢ store Appletinis, you need to add to water & then liquor edit: …wordpress.com/2011/06/taste-test-crystal-li…

Great trip report. Nothing like a fellow bargain hunter naming places and prices! Thanks for sharing your experiences with us. You have to love those off season weekday rates.

Jerry - they put us in the renovated rooms w/out us asking. When the lady at the front desk told me what room/tower I was in, I asked if it was one of the renovated ones. She said it was. I was wondering that, too - if they just did the whole tower.

rship - Lol. I have some of those in my pantry. They're disgusting. Now if I add liquor...

Thanks for sharing and glad you had another successful AC Thanksgiving trip. As you say there’s so much at the Trop it’s not easy to get bored. Did you see any problems like there used to be with slow elevators in the West Tower?

>>>”They're disgusting. Now if I add liquor...<<<” A lot of things look/taste better with added liquor—even some people;)

Thanks for reports on Trop . We also find it a good facility with lots of food selections and variety of slots ( just in case weather turns sour). Also appreciated your update on Caesars buffet.

divasoul ~ Good to hear the elevators were fine. There was a poster or two who made a big deal about them here in past years. And thanks for your other report on Caesar’s Thanksgiving buffet, glad to hear of the improvements there also. Again, glad you had what sounds like a well-deserved family trip.
