Trip Report, Jan. 24 - 27, Showboat

Spent two nights at Showboat, three couples. I could only get Fri. night comped, one of the other couples gave us their other comp room (they were able to get two rooms for Fri. and Sat. nights). The other couple got their own comped room. We were all in the Bourbon tower. Two couples on 11th floor, the other on 6th floor which apparently is a smoking floor, but they wanted to be in the same tower as us and that was the only room left when we arrived Fri. night. We left Valley Stream around 7:30 p.m., we got there a little after 10:00 p.m. Every time over the weekend we used the elevators we had to put our room key card in to access.

The other 2 couples played in the poker tournament at 11:00 p.m., none of them won, but played till about 4-4:30 a.m. Me and hubby gambled a bit, lost, so up to bed to save the rest of our money for the weekend.

Saturday (they all got up late of course), so we met for lunch at noon in Earl of Sandwich. The couple with the 2 comped rooms also had $75 food credit, so they treated us all. 6 of us with soup, sandwiches, and drinks came to about $70. From there took a cab to Tropicana, spend the afternoon there. Everyone lost. Hubby and I had never been in there, found it really beautiful and nice selection of slots. Saw a lady winning about $1,900 on Willy Wonka. Very hard to get on those and several others (like Iron Man, Wizard of Oz, etc.). When we did finally try the Willy Wonka, of course, we lost...lol

Cabbed it back to Showboat for dinner at the buffet (ate there for free), first time eating there, found it very good, food choices good, all fresh, pleasantly surprised. They had lobster and crab legs which were a big hit! The other 2 couples went and played in the 7:00 p.m. poker tournament, hubby played roulette, I played slots. Did terribly, so up to the room around 9:30. Turns out 3 out of the other 4 were up in the rooms by 8:00, didn't last so long. But one stayed in the tournament till about 2:00 a.m. Again no winners.

Sunday, checked out went over to Harrah's for their breakfast buffet (again free). Very nice, great stuff, it was brunch so they had everything and anything you could imagine. We enjoyed it very much. Hubby and I's first time in Harrah's. Pool is beautiful!! Like someone dropped a pool from a Florida resort in there. Spent a couple of hours in the casino there. It's a bit dark compared to Showboat and Trop, but some nice slots. Hubby won a bit back with roulette. One of the other fellas won a bit back, the rest lost.

Had a great weekend, nice to get a way. Glad the rooms and food were all free!!! I would say the casinos were not overly crowded. Trop and Harrah's casinos definitely more crowded than Showboat. Showboats crowd was more in the poker and tables area, not so much at the slots. As much as I love Showboat, the slots could use some updating. Showboat's check in line, when we passed it Sat and Sun, was very long. So lots of people checking in (they really need more people behind the desk when the line gets long like that), was nice to see.

Thank goodness no traffic on the way home. It was a nice weekend away :0

(p.s. Sunday morning on our way over to the valet to get the cars, saw a lady win $8,000 on a slot!! Good for her!!)

Thanks for sharing your trip report here. Good you had a nice break and nice you were able to do both Showboat and Harrah’s weekend buffets. They surely are best for seafood at any AC casinos these days. We also did those a few weeks ago. Yum!

What time did you arrive for the Harrah's brunch, and how crowded is it?

thanks for reading (great pic of the food easydave)

@Frank - we got there about 11:00 a.m., got right in, not too crowded. Got out of there by 12:30, no line, people were still getting right in, slightly more crowded than when we went in, but still not bad :)

Yes, great pic of the food to get an idea of the setup. I read elsewhere that they serve the crab legs in groups of five, and I did see five on his plate, so that seems to be the system.

Princess41... Nice trip report! Makes me wish I was in AC right now...

BTW: you didn't lose any money. The Caesars corporation is merely holding the money in escrow for you until you and the others return at a later date. Isn't that nice of them? lol

No, I was able to take as much as I wanted. For that plate I just took what I thought might look nice in a photo. ;-)

On the 12th we went to Harrah’s Sunday Brunch about noon and also got right in. It was not crowded, but with people still coming in at 1:30. It’s a little pricey for full payers, $40-45, (with or without players cards), plus tax if not with comps.
