1 night accom Atlantic City 29 JUN hard to find!

On a East coast car tour with family, and as leaving NYC late on day one (29 JUN) of the trip, I thought Atlantic City, Ocean City or Cape May would have one nights accommodation. Not so lucky it seems.

90% want min two nights, or well over 500 bucks a night (4 adults). The ones that are nearly affordable, are flea pits and come with grave warnings here on Travel Advisor & other forums (but a very funny read- sorry to those who had to experience it however!)

The idea was to head southish as heading to DC in a long roundabout sort of a way, but will have to revisit our itinerary as I really dont want to be driving more than 3 hours as we don't get out of NYC until well after 3 pm on the sat arvo. Any clues or tips on 'non flea pits' any where from Atlantic City down to Cape May for a family of 4 adults that does not cost me a 4th mortgage for an overnighter?

The 29th is a Sunday you won't have any trouble getting a room or two in A.C.

Try and chose a casino/hotel along the boardwalk. This site is very good give them a try.

Taj Mahal is on the boardwalk and decent "$119 a night" rates.

Others will give advice in a few hours or so.

If you could give us a budget we will be better able to assist you. Will all four be in one room? Or do you require multiple rooms?

Can you possibly change your Jersey Shore stay to Sun-Thurs?

Finding an inexpensive decent room at the shore on a Sat. during peak season is going to prove challenging.

Try these two Chelsea Pub and Inn or The Chelsea Hotel. But you don't want the Annex at Chelsea Hotel. Perhaps The Claridge? It got less then stellar reviews but is set to reopen late May after a remodeling. Best of luck whatever you decide upon!

Try the Residence Inn AC airport. It's just off route 322 on Fire Road about 8 miles west of AC. They're showing rooms with a king bed and sofa bed for around $200.

Sorry about not putting in as Sat 28th. yes Sunday 29th would have made it easier, but it is all to do with not having to drive for miles on day one of many with the road trip, and possibly ground ourselves in a area to explore. The idea is not to cut back on where we have been direction wise.

Looked at the airport ones, but too far from anything, and while just in price range, all average accom with travel to get anywhere. I will run the Chelsea ones past the rest of the family and see if it suits.

(thank you all for suggestions however, appreciated!)

Thought Jersey area would have been more Vegas in accommodation. Guess I was wrong. The resort/casinos only have accommodation without vouchers, or meals, or drinks or anything else to tempt the traveller - just rooms at ridiculous prices. Even Cape May has nothing. I appreciate that it is the start of July and a holiday week, however not enjoying this search.

I think the Jersey coast is going to lose our dollar as nothing seems avail, too expensive or awful hotels miles from anything.

Well if you are driving to D.C. when are you driving back? Perhaps you could visit the Jersey shore on your return leg during the week?

I suggest looking into Galloway & Absecon [pronounced ab~SEEK~con] Along White Horse Pike [Rt30] there is a Holiday Inn Xpress a Comfort Inn Norht, a Red Roof Inn [recently rebranded] that is on a hill

I just thought of another nearby place, on Rt9 stocktonseaview.com/accommodations/accommoda… ←this place has it's own wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seaview_(Galloway,_New_Jersey) It's historic, has it's own golf course. I looked up their prices and they start at $269 for that date. There's an inexpnsive pub on the edge of the golf course, McGettigans 19th Hole http://mcgettigans19.com/ I've eaten at McGettigans several times, it's typical pub food... well, I've always ordered typical pub food

edit: the wikipedia link didn't work, try this http://tinyurl.com/purty-hotel

As suggested try Absecon...there are a number of Chain Hotels there where you should be able to get what you're looking for....

Would you consider another part of the Jersey Shore? In Monmouth county you would also be able to find Chain Hotels a mile or so from Shore Towns.

Actually, Atlantic City is like Las Vegas in that hotel rates are very expensive on Saturday nights, much more so than Sundays-Thursdays.

One fundamental difference is that the Jersey shore is a seasonal vacation destination within easy driving distance of major population centers. Many, many people go to the shore for a weekend or a week or two during the summer. With so much demand, prices are high, especially on Saturdays. Hotels don't need to give out coupons or promos to "tempt" people for a Saturday night in late June. People are tempted by the idea of a weekend at the beach, and hotels in good locations can sell out without incentives.
