Yes, it had been discussed here, and you can find the thread(s) easily by using the search function.

But previously it had been assumed that they would stay open until the Miss America pageant was done (Sept 15)? Now it is late August?

I don't mind the Showboat closing, I stayed there once, it was terrible, and I never returned (to stay). But the Revel's possible closing is upsetting me very much. It is the newest building, the fanciest property in town.

In older threads it had been said that the Showboat will stay open as a hotel, only its casino will close. Does your friend have different infos?

odd that an employee would have received an official notice, but CZR has somehow been able to keep that out of the press (both figuratively and literally). when revel provided official notice to their employees, it was in the press within hours. i don't doubt for a moment what someone told you, but something seems odd about that.

sadly, there are many people, as witnessed by posts in this forum, who believe a casino that's closing is not worth visiting. a lot of people have expressed concern for the employees of showboat and revel... it seems to me that the best way you can support those folks is by reporting here what is known to be a fact.. while it's a fact that someone you know told you they got a notice of some kind, it's complete speculation that showboat is closing. it may well be closing at some point and i'm sure that CZR may be considering selling it or closing it. but we don't know that. and if it were to close, it's complete speculation as to whether it's september or august or november 17th.

until CZR informs all its employees and makes a pubic announcement that showboat is closing, it ain't closing. that could be this afternoon... or never. so why discourage people from visiting the joint?

my point is this: the best way to keep your friends and associates employed at the casinos you enjoy going to is not to say this casino or that is closing... because then many people stop going to those casinos! and if business takes even more of a downward turn, well, that casino may just have to close!

at this time, both the showboat and the revel are fully operational and the employees are eager to greet you and welcome you into their casinos. gary loveman said that CZR is considering reducing capacity, but the company has never said which casino might close or whether they would in fact close a casino:

"so we’re looking at all of our options to continue to reduce the cost of doing business here, options to reduce capacity. you’ve seen just with the closure of the atlantic club, some moving in that direction, and it's possible with the continuing trends and you will see more of that. i think that’s the normal self-correcting, healing, that you would like to see in a market like this."

spread facts, not rumors.

All I know is what he said, by law I believe he said they have to give 60 days notice.

60 days notice is correct, but if that happened it would be by public notice and not what one employee said.

"The facts are CZR will be a more profitable company in AC when and if they close Showboat. "

Possibly so, but if Revel closes won't that make ShowBoat more viable?

Personally I'd rather see the ones in the marina area shut down or move to the boardwalk to take over the existing ones. I mean what if Borgata moved into Revel's building and Golden Nugget moved back into the AC Clubs buildings?

There is a reason Bogata and Harrahs in the marina are doing better than most boardwalk casinos. It might also be the reason that Golden Nugget is thriving lately.

I suspect the cost savings will be at the expense of the small players who are comped rooms despite being small players. Fewer CZR rooms mean higher occupancy rates for surviving hotels and therefor fewer rooms that are available to be comped.
