Quick trip report 11/20

Got down to Harrah's 3:30pm for the 1pm-7pm cheesecake givaway . Found out they ran out of cakes at 3PM . They didn't know they didn't have enough for 2/3 of the customer s ? ! ? Bad public relations . Lots of people mad ! They gave a $10 coupon - big deal ! I played the Salmon run in the cove . Won $100 right away on five 9's. Then I lost it back . Then I lost another $100 here and there . Finally decided to go to Trump Marina to see if they had the Coke Cookie Jar . The line was a bit long but they had plenty . It's pretty nice... a Christmas one ! I proceded to lose about another $100 here and there at the Marina . Finally we got two seats together at a 5 cent Spin Poker . Mary was about $10 ahead when I hit 5 dueces for $200 on a $2.25 max bet . So I cashed out and we both left A.C. a little bit ahead . We'll be back next Friday for an overnighter .

To be fair, as I told Allure last week, Trump Marina owes my wife and I two promo items that they were out of when we got there early afternoon of the days they were available. They owe us a couple of jackets and 2 toasters I think. We are "wait-listed" and they will send a post card when they are available. Frankly, seems like a lot of them are doing this kind of stuff lately, so lets not nail Harrahs as unique.

Glad to hear you left ahead allure...it certainly was a quick trip. How far is AC from home for you guys??

moneywho,

While I agree with you that Harrahs has some real problems with unhappy customers, I was just trying to point out that they are not the only one who don't seem to order enough promotion product these days. Yes, you are indeed entitled to your opinion, but I just wanted to add a few additional facts to the discussion.

Frank ,

We are 1 1/2 hours from AC .

We had a problem with Trump last year with the Kincade Clock . They said they stopped production and had to substitute a pen set .

Also Showboat last year had jackets but ran out of small -med- large after 1/2 hour or so . They only had XL left on a take it or leave it basis . Now I have to gain 100 lbs - lol .

Just seems poor mgt. to me on Harrah's part to run out of cakes so EARLY . Especially when they are trying to get ( or SHOULD be trying to get ) people to join/stay with their 4 casino Total Rewards Program . Annoying customers around the holidays is not a good idea . For example I was going to bring the cheesecake to my mom for Thanksgiving eve . People need things to go smoothly . Better if they didn't even offer it .

I have to agree allure. They would be a lot better if they just didn't offer things. People do make plans based on a promotion and feel that they have been baited and switched when something like this happens. If I want to go, fine. But do not offer me a promotion to get me there and then when I am there tell me, sorry, we ran out! I know we felt this way when we had the experience at Trump this fall...especially when it seemed like they were trying to clean out the remains in the prize closet in alternate choices for folks!

I do remember both of us getting Junior's Cheese Cakes from Ballys a number of years ago. They looked like they had thousands!

I agree, Allure, very poor planning on Harrah's part. Glad to hear you came out ahead in the money dept. though.

I remember the Junior's Cheesecake. I miss Bally's monthly giveaways. I got some practical gifts there, some which I still have. I still see people walking around AC with the green Bally's windbreakers. LOL

I recall the very last time I went to Trump Plaza and why it was (and will remain) the last time. About 3 years ago, they were giving away a "breakfast machine" which was some sort of combo doodad that combined a coffee maker, toaster and griddle. You had to call to reserve it, which my sister, Dad and I all did. We arrived about 1/2 hour after the giveaway started. Picture this......the giveaway is in the ballroom. The line runs all the way down the hallway and has backed up to the escalator. There is literally NO room to get on the end of the line unless you want to use the escalator as a tread mill. It was truly a mob scene. Very hot and crowded and some elderly folks actually collapsed and had to be stretchered away. I decided right away that they could put their breakfast machine - and their casino - where the sun don't shine. My sister toughed it out. It took almost 2 hours to get to the front of the line. Of course, they ran out of the item (why bother reserving it if they aren't going to order enough). She was offered the option of a raincheck or some money (I forget how much). She took the raincheck. Well, many weeks later she received a card telling her that she could come in to pick up the item - but only on certain days (weekdays, of course, when those of us who work can't get there). She was furious....no one ever told her that the raincheck was good only on certain days. If she'd known that, she would have taken the cash. She never did pick it up. And none of us has ever patronized the Plaza since.

Showboat was giving away a Mikasa vase on Sunday from 2 to 7. We got there at 5:30 and they were long gone. They paid everyone $10 on the spot, in cash, not a coupon. The line moved very quickly and although I'm sure some folks were disappointed, at least they didn't have to wait in yet another line to cash in a coupon. (I was happy to get the cash - after all, how many vases do you need when you've been married over 35 years.....) Still, it seems to me that these places NEVER order enough items. A few months ago, Showboat was giving away a terry cloth robe. Never got that, either.

On the other hand, Bally's had plenty of turkeys today and the line moved very quickly with no calamities....other than a lot of really heavy frozen turkeys being carted all over the casino!
