Discounts, comps for First Timers???

Hi there!

I've heard that both AC and Vegas will do comps, rooms etc, if you are a first timer...with the assumption, they'll "suck you in" no pun intended there...just what I was told.

Hubby and I have tickets we need to use (plane) and I thought a quick, extended weekend in AC would be nice as neither of us have been to Vegas, I've been to AC twice, most recently Labor day 05, but only did slots and that was it...watched the black jack tables while my brother in law was playing.

I keep hearing people talk about comps, etc...but know NOTHING about any of it :-)

We're on a tight budget (building a garage and bought the kid a car) and can't find any rooms that aren't over 300...for April, when we'd have to go....

What is the deal? What about eating? How much will it cost??

Thanks a ton all!!

When you were last in AC did you join a players club and use that card while you were playing slots?

Casinos (at least not one that I've ever heard of) will not give you a free room before you ever show and give them an idea of how much you play.

There are some casinos that will "comp" you a room for a night or two IF you are a premium member of a competeing casino's players club. I know at one point the Tropicana was offering one or two nights comp'ed to Diamond or better Harrahs players who were new players at the Tropicana. (I have no idea if they are still doing this.)

It is possible to get comps on your first trip if you play a lot on that trip. When you leave they may take something (or everything) off the bill based on how much "action" you've given them during your stay. For them to comp your whole stay is going to take a lot of action.

Once you've gone to the casino and signed up as a member of their players club you will start getting offers in the mail to return. You will get things like $ off the buffet, "bonus cash" if you go on certain days, and some free or discounted rooms.

If you can take your trip during the week you can find rooms for about $80/night.

Room rates in AC are generally more expensive than in Vegas. There's just a lot more competition in Vegas. Maybe you should explore going to Vegas if your budget is tight. Rooms can be had very inexpensively - even over a weekend - most times in the Downtown area. You can also find lower table limits in Vegas than you can in AC.

If you don't have a Harrah's total reward card ( Harah's , Showboat, Bally's , Caesars) you can sign up and get some benefits right away . 1/2 price buffet , $100 of losses returned on your next trip , free parking . But this may change by April .

You can check for nost current casino promotions at whoot.com

You can find plenty of reasonable places to eat in AC . And buying the South NJ Entertainment Book can get you some discounts .

But for cheap rooms you will have to go to Absecon or West AC ( or other towns outside AC ) and you will need a car . You also need a car or take a cab from the AC Airport . Some hotels offer free shuttle service to the casinos . You can get an idea of prices by going to choicehotels.com Also in town prices are MUCH less for weekdays if you can swing it .

If you've never been to Vegas, you should go there! www.cheapovegas.com is my favorite site for Vegas info.

m1e1b1s1.... If you are planning to go to AC under the assumption that your room will be free for certain before you check out, think again. Like ambrva said, you will have to play lots to get the room charges dropped. If you end up going on the weekend as you've mentioned, you two wil have to be bonafide high rollers to get those $300 rooms comped.

The "suck you in" part comes after you are home, and then you will get room offers for any kind of decent play. Free meals are not too hard to get no matter when you go, as long as both of you have a players card

Like mentioned elsewhere, you wil save a lot more money on a casino room or in-town motel room if you go Sunday-Thursday.

If you are adamant about going on the weekend, it would not be a terrible idea to go to Las Vegas. The cheap rooms in Downtown Vegas would certainly make up for the extra time and trouble in traveling farther. The only caveat with this is that I think --this is just my personal opinon-- that a couple should spend more than three days their first time in Vegas. There is so much to see and do that you will feel gypped if you have to return home so fast.

Anyway, hope you enjoy whatever you decide to do! <grin> Let us know via a Trip Report how it goes. BTW...Should you need more info on either AC or Vegas, fire away! We can help you with AC here, and the people on the Vegas forum can help you with "Lost Wages". LOL .
