My husband & I are staying at Caesars tommorrow night. We usually stay there because its centrally located, walking distance to the other casinos & now the Pier is reopened with tons of upscale shops & restaurants. I'm looking forward to checking it out. Plus, they comped our room so whats not to love?
I stay at the Borgata because I am a black label there. I like the hotel, it's still relatively new & is comfortable. I'm not bothered by the off Boardwalk location, as it's easy to take a Jitney to get down to the Boardwalk area. I have also stayed at Showboat and enjoy it there.
Harrahs was OK and Trump Marina was a dump.
Thanks for the input. I made two reservations at the Showboat. One for during the week and the other for a Saturday. I am not sure if we can go during the week so I made the Saturday reservation as a backup. The prices were not bad - 79 for Tuesday night and 179 for Saturday night.
I wouldn't stay at Showboat if it was the last casino in A.C.
We stayed there 2 times last year. The latest in December and found the casino at night dirty, noisy and drunks laying across the slots.
They were abusive to the drink servers. I was glad we only stayed a night and left for Trump Marina for a clean and quiet place at night.
I have comped rooms at 5 casinos each week to choose from and enjoy Trump Marina and the Bally's Tower the best.
Drunks as in homeless people or drunks as in drunken frat boys?
Either way, I'll tell you about the homeless people I saw sleeping on the benches as you go across the walkway from Bally's into WWW and also about the loudmouths over near Toga in Caesar's that drew security over.
You probably just had the misfortune of being at the 'boat on the wrong night.
There were a couple of nights where HOB booked shows that drew a bad crowd . One resulted in a full fledged incident with police coming to the casino .
I think Showboat has now somewhat cracked down on the HOB for this type of problem .
On another board, there was mention of a rumor that the Showboat will buy out the HOB, keep the name, but take over the day-to-day operations of the space. They're not happy about the way HOB is running things and the crowd they attract.
I find this odd b/c I would've thought with Harrah's going private that *HOB* would buy the *Showboat* instead.
jmp14... I was thinking exactly the same thing as you. But the new issue of Casino Player magazine says it is possible that the "new" Harrahs might sell off its Boardwalk presence and focus on Marina-related devlepment. If that is the case, then who the hell knows! lol
I don't think the idea of catering to a different demographic by HOB is in itself bad, but it seems to have been carried out in the wrong manner.
Looking at the shows at HOB, you can see that they have changed the type music they are bringing in. There is more Country lately that HipHop etc. That is NOT to say that HipHop brings in a bad crowd, but in the court of public opinion it does in many cases, and that may be part of the problem. No casino wants to scare away potential gamblers based on the "crowd" hanging out there. Of course the country fans could be drunk and worse than any other group.
