Are there any clubs open during the week?

I am a little bummed out. Was supposed to go to Vegas for our anniversary now we are going to AC. I know AC doesn't have as much entertainment as Vegas but I need some advice.

Hubby and I are going to AC in March from the 11th to the 15th- Sunday thru Thursday. Want a nice club or lounge. Maybe a little jazz or something.

Any suggestions? We are staying at the Borgata. I have stayed there before but never went to any of the clubs or bars.

I have a few questions;

Who has the best Sunday Champagne Brunch?

Has anyone tried Brulee at the Tropicana?

Nice romantic dinner..Anniversary on March 12?

Thank you all in advance.

My husband and I went to AC for our 1st and 2nd anniversaries and had a great time both trips. As for going out, while it's never truly not crowded at a casino, the Sunday through Thursday trip might not have the best nightlife. Check out the House of Blue calendar and see if there's any shows. I think it might have free jazz on Mondays. I've been to the In the Mixx club at the Borgata, but that was on a Saturday night (and it was your typical singles scene club).

As for the best Sunday brunch, I hear the brunch at Prime Place in Bally's is very good. I've never had the brunch there, but have eaten dinner there a few times, and it was very good.

I've never eaten at Brulee, but on my first anniversary trip we walked by it and it was pretty dead (on a Sunday night), and definitely not a place my husband wanted to check out. But he's more of the sports guy.

Romantic dinner--we ate at Morton's in Caesars and it was nice. We indicated in our reservation that it was our anniversary and we got one of the coveted booths. I wouldn't have had as nice a time if we were at a regular table. But Morton's seemed pricy and probably slightly overrated for the money. I wanted to eat at the Baccanal at Caesars, but it wasn't opened on Monday. But check if it's serving dinner--it might be slightly cheesy, but it's definitely a place I want to check out soon. My boss has eaten at Specchio at the Borgata and liked it a lot (but I'm sure it's pricey).

Also, check out the relatively new Pier at Caesars. The restaurants are on the 3rd level and it's interesting to walk around and check them out. The views (of the ocean and the boardwalk) are very pretty--it's especially romantic at night (the boardwalk is all light up). We had one drink at a few bars one night and it was fun to restaurant hop. There's a fountain/water show that plays every hour on the hour. The fountains are all the way at the end of the pier, closest to the ocean. It's interesting to see if you're around, but nothing that great.

Also, check out the Blue Martini Lounge in Bally's. During the week (M-F) there's 1/2 price drinks from 5 to 7 pm. They have different interesting martinis. It's nice to check out before dinner.

Overall, the weekdays aren't as lively for going out, but you'll have a good time with your husband (we had a great time just doing our thing). Have fun!!

Hurricane,

Thank you so much. I canceled my reservation for Brulee. I saw the reviews and I have never seen so many people talk so bad about it. $1000 for a Brownie? Are you kidding me?

I am thinking about Mortons and Carmines. Not sure which one for anniversary dinner. I will look into the Pier. When were there in August, they were still building shops and we didn't go to the 3rd flr. Didn't even know they were putting restaurants there.

I will check House of Blues.

Thank you again

Carmines is NOT a romantic Restaurant . And it is almost guarenteed you will need a take home bag . Ruth's Chris is better and less expensive than Morton's . The Palm has some romantic nooks and is better than Ruth's Chris but costs a bit more .

The Old Waterway near Borgata is romantic ( ask for a waterview table) good and relatively inexpensive .

Go to whoot.com and click on Casinos- Lounge listings to get an idea of what places have music during the week . You might like Tango's @ Trop ( stick with standard drinks there ) which is a piano bar .

Allure,

Thanks. How far is the old waterway from Borgata? Is it walking distance or should we take our car? Better yet should I take a cab. Don't want to drink and drive.

Old Waterway is in the Venice Park section of AC . A little bit too far to walk . ( It is the section that is off to the right as soon as you get over the drawbridge coming into AC .)

harlemgirl720 - I second the vote for Bacchanaal Room at Caesar's. There are a few cozy banquette-type tables to be had, and it's a fun and relaxing way to enjoy dinner. It's a fixed price ($60?) 5-course meal with a nice selection and superb service. It also includes wine and champagne. There are strolling musicians, and you can even get a massage between courses. I've been there with just my boyfriend, and with a group of 10, and I have enjoyed it both ways. Some in my group ordered a fish dish they did not like, but I stick with the beef and it has always been delicious. For the money, this is your best deal. Even if you don't go for your anniversary, you should still try to get there just for the experience. Also, though very expensive, Peregrine's at the Hilton is probably the most romantic dining experience I've had in AC. Monday's are tough, as many restaurants are closed, including both the above-mentioned.

Congrats,

Happy Anniversary,

I noticed you asked about going to old waterway inn. I highly recommend it for a romantic dinner and it is more reasonable than Mortons and their fireplace adds to the romantic ambiance. The old waterway inn is chef owned, so the menu selections [& specials] are more intricate than Mortons. Now the down side. The old waterway inn is only open Friday Saturday & Sunday in the winter. I am not 100% sure about March, but here is their #

Also, don't get screwed by the cabbie. The most they can charge is $8 for any destination in AC. They CAN add a $2 surcharge for outlying areas, but this is all they can add.

rship1 - Not sure if that's true about the cabbies; we paid $11 both ways from the Hilton to the Borgata. When I questioned it, he said they were in different zones, though both are physically located in AC. I think anything in the Marina area is considered a different zone,so they can charge extra.

Cheers,

Thank you all,

I will look into these suggestions. I didn't realize so many restaurants were closed on Monday.

luvbreezes,

you are probably right. But the last time I cabbed it was last February [2006] and at the destination, when the cabbie tried to charge me more than 'what I thought was the $8 maximum base rate' [$10] he backed down and changed his fare to $8, he ended up getting $10 total from me. I cannot find any info posted on this 'maximum base rate' or on zones inside AC. There is info posted on the internet about 'maximum base rate' for going outside AC, like to the airport, Ventnor, the shore mall, Smithville, etc.

Ps. I did send an email to the concierge at http://www.atlanticcitynj.com/home.asp

no response yet, but the answer I expect is to call each cab company
