Hotels in Optaijia

We are a group of 3 couples taking a 4night break in Croatia next month. we are flying into Rijeka and are currently looking for hotels in Optajia. Can anyone recommend any, or maybe some other town within fairly easy reach of the airport? Somewhere fairly central would be good so we can have a wander around at eat out in the evenings, but not too noisy (i.e. not into nightclubs etc any more!). Is it still likely to be hot in mid Sept in which case should we be looking for a hotel with air con in bedrooms?

Airport is fairly well connected with choice of transport. (airport bus, local bus & taxi)

You can go to a more lively region of Opatija/Rijeka where you can buzz around on foot and/or public transport.(I would dodge hotels Palace,Bellevue & Kvarner because they still may have cheesy terrace-band music. Not as much noisy as suicidal...every night they play thye same tunes...for the last 20 years)

Or you can stay on island Krk which is more nature orientated. But for going around every day you need to hire a car.( Taxi is about 1eur/km) Krk also have better chances of having less cluods/rain.

Mid Sept is usually nice, warm but not hot.

We have just returned from a 5 night break in Opatija and enjoyed our stay at the Design Hotel Astoria---good central location, not noisy, air-conditioned and breakfast included. See hotel reviews for other opinions. Floors 5 and 6 (top floor) offer great sea views. and there is no cheesy music

Opatija has a good selection of restaurants and is a centre for organised trips at reasonable prices

About 50 minutes travel time from Rijeka to Optaija and 320 kuna (32 pounds) per taxi journey. You could probably book a minibus in advance for six people.

The Astoria Design and the Mozart are two of the better hotels in Opatija and agree with Kefa about the less exciting ones. There are several classy restaurants in the area and a beautiful promenade stretching from Volosko to Lovran. If you fancy a hike there is Mount Ucka in the background with spectacular views over the Kvarner Gulf.

Lovely resort with good (concrete) beach facilities and restaurants.

Stayed in the hotel Belvedere (partnered with the Palace next door). Palace the more impressive but the East side overlooks the bus station. Belvedere faded grand with good rooms (room 89 on 4th floor boasts a dressing room in addition to bedroom and a good bathroom. Breakfasts a bewildering array of buffet foods - help yourself. Dinners not at all exciting - just basic refuelling. A good value hotel. Bus from Rijeka airport 22 Kuna to Rijeka and a taxi from Rijeka bus station to Oaptija 100 Kuna

KnowAll probably meant taxi Rijeka Airport to Opatija (50min/32GBP)

Jersey paid a little bit higher price (Rijeka "Cammeo" taxi company) than with Opatija ("Hallo Taxi") city run cabs (70kn day time price)

Please take look at my review of the Ambassador. At the quieter end of town but walking along the coast path is beautiful and take 10 mins to the centre. Great rooms wonderful air con, 2 sided balcony in the suite. Feel free to get in touch.
