Dive and Restaurant recommendations?

Hi, we're on island now looking for a good dive operator and places to eat.

Is there a place in Puerto B Moreno that has local's "food stalls" (if there is a good Spanish name for these, please let me know!), like the street in Puerto Ayora? The stalls in PA had the best food we ate there!

Thanks!

Dear Belizee - the last time I was in PBM (3 yrs ago) - there were no food stalls. It's much quieter than Puerto Ayora, but you'll still have a few places from which to choose - though you migh have to compete with the sealions!

Warmest regards,

Try Wreck Bay for diving. We were happy with them when we were there a couple of months ago. We found restaurants tougher. There is Calypso the pizza place and La Playa. Other then that, no great restaurant recs. Enjoy the sea lions after sunset.

My comments are similar to sdigel.

We had very good experience diving with Angel and team from Wreck Bay Divers a couple of weeks ago, selected them based upon positive reviews on TA as well as scubaboard and other references. We used their equipment, very good condition. Boat is fully equipped including oxygen, first aid, and all the rest. Angel and crew are very professional and safety oriented.

First day was two tanks - Tijeretas Hill and Caragua Wreck, very close to PBM. Interesting dives in calm low current locations, good spot to get checked out and oriented to equipment and area. We were using full 5 mil wetsuits including hoods, around 60 ft. Six divers, two DMs, enabled more efficient breathers to stay down a bit longer while others surfaced earlier.

Next day was same crew, naturalist, with mix of divers and snorkelers. First we all snorkeled with sea lions at Isla Lobos, great fun, then headed to Kicker Rock where divers dove and snorkelers snorkeled. First dive was slot between the rocks, following bottom about 60 ft, minor current. Lots of sharks, a few turtles, lots of fish. Then went across to beautiful beach for surface interval and exploring beautiful location. Returned to KR for second dive, this time along the outside wall. Spectacular massive wall of sardine-type fish, turtles, sharks including some hammerheads. Outside wall can be tricky, so stay close to buddy and DM, watch your depth, and be especially alert. Can be a fair bit of current, and the bottom is a looong way down. KR is outstanding, we would have returned to dive it another day if our schedule would have permitted it.

We had a great time in PBM, which is a great place to spend a few days at the start of any Galapagos visit, and was one of the highlights of our time in the Galapagos. Walk to beaches, orientation center, and various trails to beautiful viewpoints.

The Las Loberias bay is a short taxi-ride from town just past the airport, and a great place to snorkel on your own with sea lions, sea turtles, etc - not to be missed! Arrange with your taxi driver to return 2-3 hours later to pick you up, note the taxi truck number so you return with the right guy, and pay at end of round trip.

La Playa restaurant along waterfront was good, as was restaurant on second floor at Hotel Miconia. Seafood, chicken, beef were all excellent. Pizza seems to be widely offered by many restaurants in Galapagos, but not generally recommended.

Hope this helps, travel safe and enjoy!
