Sharm to Dahab transfers (& Cairo trip?)

Hi all,

Never been to Egypt before, but booked up to stay in Le Meridien in June – can’t wait.

Can anyone advise the best way to get from Sharm airport to Dahab? From what I’ve been reading, organizing this with the hotel would be easiest? (if they do it?)

Also – we really want to organize a day trip to Cairo, flights look the best way – can anyone recommend a company? Or is this best through the hotel also (and can we leave this until we’re there to organize or is it best in advance?)

Thanks in advance.

Hello BorisBex,

Contact Fiona at Dahab Holidays, they do transfers for £30 each way. We are there in June too, at the hotel next to you. Iberotel Dahabeya.

Happy Hols!

Hi Guys,

Check out the website www.dahabinfo.com, all details about transfers are there.

Fiona at Dahab holidays is great as well, you should have no problems with either.

£30 is a bit steep. LE150 is the right price. I pay my guy LE200 'cos he's a friend.

We're off to Egypt this summer too and want to do a trip to Cairo. Thought I'd look up the website you recommended but the address is wrong. It should be: www.dahab-info.com

Hope you don't mind me correcting you :-) and thanks for the heads up!

Hello Plum,

I see you're from Surrey, as I am, and looking at your contribution list, we travel to the same areas. We are off to Dahab in June, staying at the Iberotel Dahabeya. I remembered coming across your name as I read the Petra topic and I see you are now interested in Cairo. If you are considering either or, perhaps I can help.

If you ever do a Nile Cruise and I thoroughly recommend it, even with children, then Cairo is a brilliant add-on as a day trip from Luxor - we did it and it was fantastic, but I wouldn't do it from Dahab as Luxor Airport is 5 mins away from where the boats are docked, but if you do it from Dahab, remember, you still have the 1 and a half hour journey down to Sharm airport and back, on top of a long day, perhaps not a great idea. However, Petra although also a long day is not something one would do as a day trip from a Nile cruise. So if you ever do a Nile cruise, keep Cairo for that and Petra for Dahab. We're doing the Petra trip with Fiona at Dahab Holidays and really looking forward to what we have planned for June.

Happy Hols!

We took the "limo" from Sonesta Beach Resort and Casino in Sharm to Le Meridien in Dahab and it cost us about 150EGP I believe. Enjoy Le Meridien Dahab, it is a great hotel.

Hi Triptrav

If it was up to me we'd be going to Petra! I've been to Cairo before (and Luxor, which I absolutely loved) and whilst I would love to go again, I would like to go somewhere I haven't been to yet..... Unfortunately, now that we have the kids in tow and they have done the Ancient Egyptians at school, we kind of feel duty bound to take them to see the Sphinx and the pyramids etc. Also, I don't know when we will be back in Egypt again as we tend to go to places we haven't been before so this may be our only opportunity to take the kids to Cairo before they get too big and go off on their own!

Thanks for the tip though.

Best wishes

Hello Plum,

I understand entirely, that is also why we never go back to the same place twice, we travel the world and have been to lovely places which are worthy of a return trip, but it would be a wasted trip as there are so many other places to see and as we have a 16 year old son, we travel as much as we can, he has a lot of the world under his belt - luck boy. In fact the only reason why we are going to Dahab is for him, he is a qualified BSAC diver, and it's rather nice for him to dive everywhere we go, so once again he is a luck boy, lots of feathers in his cap plus skiing, but that's another story.

Hi Triptrav

I'm very envious of your son!!!!

Now that the kids are getting older (11 & 8) we fill more confident on taking them further afield and broadening their horizons, so to speak! We did a lot of travelling before we had them and did miss it whilst they were younger!

My husband is a BSAC diver as well and is looking forward to some diving - is it as good as they say? Kids and I will be snorkelling, although I don't think it will be long before the eldest starts asking to learn to dive - more expense!

We got a very good quote from Fiona for a day trip or over night trip to Cairo. If we go, we will be going with her. Once again, Trip Advisor comes out tops!
