Thomas Cook - now we know why???

Hi all

Just read this in my local paper:-

"Demand for holidays in the Middle East have dropped so drastically in the wake of political upheavals that some tour operators may struggle to survive, say travel trade sources..........

Thomas Cook says travel restrictions to Egypt and Tunisia caused 150,000 cancellations (110,000 to Egypt, 40,000 to Tunisia) and a £20 million bill including £5 million repatriating tourists. As price cuts struggle to kick start demand, long-haul specialist Kuoni has cuts its losses by switching Egypt-bound travellers to other destinations."

Let's hope that the numbers start picking up now, really don't fancy having to go through all the rigmarole in future of picking up,or having to change at other airports again!!!

Another snippet of news from the 30th March

“Thomas Cook chief executive Manny Fontenla-Novoa also said that the capacity cut backs were partly due to a proposed merger of Thomas Cook with the Co-operative Group travel agents. The deal has currently been delayed while it is referred to the Competition Commission.”
