Money to take

Hi I am flying out to the Fort in 6 weeks and have already got some $ for tips. Is it best to take $ or £ for shopping at the duty free? Also is there much choice at the airport?

We are going tomorrow, but read on here that all prices are in $ at the airport, you can pay in £ but may lose once the exchange rate is done.

we always take dollars as everything is priced in dollars but they will accept any currency or cards but the exchange rate is not so good.

We stayed at the fort this summer and had a lovely time. It is not a hotel where hands are always out for tips but the odd 10le every now and again to bar staff or room cleaner.

At the end of your holiday anenvelope

will be put under your door for any tip you wish to leave, this then goes into the box at reception and is shared out between all staff, including backroom staff you never get to see but who do so much to ensure your holiday runs so smoothly.

The duty free at hurghada is ok not as much choice as gatwick but most major brands.

There is also a large shopping area selling all the usual tourist stuff if which is cheaper than many of the shops in hughada.

And is good for any last minute presents you want to take home especially if you are short on weight for extra packing in your case as anything you buy in the mall will be carry on hand luggage as you are already checked in.
