Which Hotel near Soho Square to choose
Save

We are a couple, 40 - 50's and we have decided to pick a hotel near Soho Square but which one. The ones I am looking at are Hilton Sharks Bay, Sierra and Sunrise Island view which are all similar prices and the Sunrise Island Garden which quite a bit cheaper.

Does anyone have experience of more than one of these hotels that could give me some guidance? Is there much difference between the two Sunrise hotel?

One of our main enjoyments is eating out when on holiday and I know that you are never going to get the best food on all inclusive so would I be better off in the cheaper hotel and using the cash I save on some nice meals out. or are the others worth the extra?

Also as we are going the week leading up to Easter I expect there will be quite a few families around so it would be good to know if any of these hotels would suit couples better than others.

We have never been snorkelling before and neither of us are great swimmers but would like to give it a go if I can make myself get in the sea at the end of March. Is it warm enough for wimps? I have seen all the websites with sea and air temps but it doesn't mean a lot.

Any advice appreciated.

hi ,

whilst the soho area is quite good , the hotels are not the best in the area . we`ve stayed at the sunrise island garden & the sierra . of the two , the sierra is slightly better re comfort & facilities , but the food isn`t up to much& rooms are a bit on the small side .

SIG is not so comfy , hard chairs/seats/sunbeds , the rooms are a bit "tired " & beds like rock ( normal in sharm ) BUT ... the food is a bit better ! SI view isn`t much different from what we heard from guests tere while sharing their beach .

had no experience of the hilton ( yet ) , but it would prob be my personal choice from the 3 you`ve named .

most of the hotels are , indeed , family oriented , but there`s usually a few quiet spots away from the youngsters .

sea temps are not too bad , usually feels a bit cool to start with , but OH goes snorkelling for a few hours every day ( i only " paddle " LOL )

sorry i can`t help you with the restaraunt bit , we always eat at the hotel ( AI )

hth , kathy

Hi,

Have you looked at Sultan Gardens in Sharks Bay?

I haven't stayed there but have had the pleasure of spending part of a day there & will upload some pics soon.

We spent last xmas at the sunrise island view and would highly recommend it, food is wonderful, it was geat being able to walk out somewhere at night though we didnt use any of the facilities of soho square.

The sunrise garden isnt as good a quality hotel as the island view hence why its cheaper.

The staff at island view are some of the best we have come across during our 5 stays in sharm and would definatily go back

P.S. We are also a couple in our 40/50's and there is a quiet pool at the sunrise which is fantastic for chilling

The reason I discounted the Sultan Gardens was that I am sure I read a review that said it was isolated and you needed a taxi to go anywhere. Is it within a reasonable walking distance of Soho Square?

From what I have read so many hotels seem to be fairly isolated and I want a hotel that I can leave whenever I want a change of scenery without having to get taxis or take hiking boots to get anywhere.

Hi,

I'm afraid it's not within walking distance, know. SG is in Shark's Bay & Soho Square is in White Knight's Bay (the next one along.)

Hi there

Soho Square is ok, it certainly isn't my favourite place in Sharm and I wouldn't want to just walk around there every evening, having said that, I would go back to the Bombay Indian Resaurant, it was excellent, but not every night LOL.

I would prefer to stay at Ras Um El Sid/Hadaba area if you want places to walk to, you'll have much more choice in the evenings. There are also excellent hotels there. For snorkelling, choose the hotels near El Fanar (lighthouse) Reef Oasis Beach being one. Check these maps for locations

hi-we stayed at the hilton sharks bay in november-we have booked to go again in march.hotel was really good-there is a buffet restaurant -there are 3 different restaurants in the old part of hotel-soho square isnt really that big or lively and i dont think there were many restaurants there-we ate in hotel as most people seem to do-the sea will be pleasantly warm enough in march for snorkelling which is amazing -we took our own mask flippers etc but hilton lends them out aswell-could not fault the hilton-staff were very friendly and helpful-

Hi Janine, I have stayed at The Savoy twice and Sunrise Island view 3 times.

Both are nice hotels. The Savoy is the hotel that came up with Soho Square so it starts from outside their Gates and continues right to where The Sunrise starts. Opposite the Sunrise is a large Supermarket. Next to the Sunrise Is The Concord Hotel and opposite this hotel is a parade of shops, supermarket, internet cafe (that is cheaper than in the hotels) then beyond that is The Hilton. As the snorkeling is the most important thing to me on holiday, both the Savoy and Sunrise are ok isk, a lot of the coral has been killed by mankind, but there are some areas that are surviving and in some areas regenerating. Both hotels are in White Knights bay which is protected from the NNE winds, so at certain times of the day the sea is like a mill pond - brilliant for snorkeling if you are not too confident. Hope this has helped, please feel free to ask anything else

Thanks for all the information, its most appreciated. Thanks Barbara for the suggestion re Hadaba area. I think I will just book my flights for now as BA are showing some good prices and do some more research before deciding on a hotel.

That's a good idea, you will get good prices on hotels, lots of homework to do now LOL
