Luckily they have been released, unharmed.

But what an ordeal that must be :(

Still it's not going to stop me from travelling there in September. We'll just be even more cautious.

Bottom line is always travel with an organised tour company'/bus and not alone as many did in the past

I will be travelling that road is just under 2 weeks and it has not worried me, travelled it in September also. If you read up on the event, the people were treated very well and un-harmed(not saying this is good or I want it to happen to me) but I will not be put off by it. Again for this road the advice is to travel during daylight and use reputable companies

i would like arrange our trip to go from sharm to taba and then the day after in petra...but now..i don't know is is a good idea...
