Have just booked to go to Kololi, The Kairaba Beach Gambia, (first time). Can anyone advise regarding money matters, are there ATMs' locally or in the hotel, what have other travellers taken and found to be good. Thank you.

There are ATMs close to the hotel. All ATMs accept visa debit and credit cards, not mastercards. You get a much better exchange rate for sterling in Gambia and plenty of places close to your hotel to exchange and no fees or charges. The exchange rate there is presently about D52 for £1 which is excellent. Some take traveller's cheques but receive D1-D2 less to the pound.

hi lyn kel

as the previous reply no problem with ATM machines but cash is king here change your sterling at the numerous money changers on the strip outside the hotel the nearest one is only 50 meters from the hotel exit the kairaba is a fabulous hotel and you have the facility of the in room safe eating out is great and you will not need a great deal of spending money

what time of year are you going?

Generally the most that you can get out of the ATM's at one time is 2000 dalasi (approx £40), sometimes it is possible to get 3000, this is due mainly to the largest Dalasi note being 100 (£2) and the dispensers can only dish out so many notes. Definitely recommend cash, the money changes don't charge any fee and the rate is far better than the banks.

If you are booking tours with the likes of Arch Tours you can pay in Sterling

we are thinking of going to Kololi at the end of April, will it be very hot or very very hot. I go regularly to Goa but avoid April as it is too hot, dry and dusty and whilst I like the heat I do want to be able to sit out in it. Thanks
