Patna to Kathmandu?

Hi, we are in Patna in November for a wedding. Is it possible to get a bus or train to Kathmandu from there? If so, how long would that take?

Thanks!

Hi piyush sinha..

Yes, agree with mukeshji..there is no direct bus from patna to nepal..take a bus to raxaul border..from there cross the border of nepal-india..enter in beerganj..and from beerganj bus depot/jeep stand you can go wherever you want.

There are very good bus services b/w Patna and Ruxol ( border town ), one of them you can find here.

It is a Volvo bus service which connects these two cities and from Birganj ( Ruxol twin city ) Nepal you can take a bus to Kathmandu. For buses you can check. http://www.gauravluxury.com/pgseatmap.aspx

Route: Raxaul (Last railway junction in Indian mainland before Nepal) to Nepal (Pokhara/Kathmandu)

Pokhara- Mugling- Narayanghat- Hetauda- Birgunj- Raxaul,

Kathmandu: Raxaul-Birgunj-Hatauda to Kahmandu

Money:

Convert you money on Nepalvside of border with government affiliated money exchangers. There are many in Birgunj. Else you end up paying commission which will 10 paisa per rupee: e.g. Govt. money exhangers return 1.6 NPR for every 1 INR whereas private will retuen 1.5/1.4 per rupee

Hotel:

You get many hotels in Pokhara, Kathmandu.. For large groups better to get in touch with hotels right away. You will get good deals as hotels in Kathmandu are cheaper with good deals for larger group if you ask them ongoing internet booking price and what they can offer best.

Food:

Best cuisuines from across the world with best rates.

Travel:

If going from Raxaul to Pokahra/Kathmandu, prefer always a public transport/ buses over private vehicles from Raxaul. For all those who are planning to take Tata Sumo/Scorpio beware of frauds in Raxaul. This is based on personal experience this December 2013.

Tips for to and fro journey from/via Raxaul:

1. Prefer public transport over Tata Sumo/ Scorpio offered by cab operators from Raxaul – They will fool you with hidden costs and old useless, fuel consuming vehicles which you realize on or return to Raxaul.

2. Prefer to book your vehicles from starting point rather than Raxaul – You getter better rates as you won’t find baseless reasons for appreciated costs by cab operators in Raxaul. They work on monopolistic model and take advantage of our situation at unknown place!

3. In worst case if you are forced to book a vehicle better check the condition of vehicles well. For example: A.C. won’t be switched on by drivers as that’s part of their profit what they save on fuel. (Most complex mathematics I ever came across)

Normally, Travelers like us are fooled in tussle of making more money amongst Cab operators, drivers, broker/agents – Finally what goes out is money from our pocket!

It will take atleast 7-9 days to visit most of the important places in Nepal, though it also depends on your choice of places, time you want to spend and routings.

Sorry for late response. It's weird as I didn't get any notification in my profile about your query.

1. 30,000 is decent amount for a couple for 8 days with decent (non-luxurious) stay and shared transport.

2. Entire Nepal will be a month at least. I think if one covers prominent places like Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, Jomsom, Lukla (mount Everest view), 15 days will do. The costs for Lukla/Jomsom (air travel) isn't included in above estimate!
