Taxi Prices

Off to Santana Candolim in 2 weeks (our first trip to Goa). Can anybody give me an idea of how much we should be haggling for taxi trips. We want to do the Waterfalls / Spice Plantation, a trip to the beaches further up North (maybe Mandrem or Little Vagator) and possibly a trip to the South (Benaulim). I suppose we would have the taxi all day for all trips - do they stay and wait for you or come back at a pre-arranged time? We also want to go into Panjim to have a walk around, go on the sunset cruise and visit Delhi Darbar restaurant. I suppose the easiest way to do this is get the bus and the ferry. Will there be taxis available in Panjim to get us back to Candolim in the evening?

Expect to pay in the region of 700-800 rupees for a trip up to Mandrem etc, driver will wait all day for you too. Up to the falls and a full day out visiting plantations, elephants, etc, expect to pay about 1200-1400 rupees haggle hard and then give some back with a good tip. You'll get excellent service this way. Try and build up a trust and relationship with any driver you like, It will bring it's rewards. A trip into Panjim will cost about 500 rupees, the driver will meeet/wait for you at an arranged spot !

snap Azz, we also staying Santanna get there 25th March. we went to Mandrem beach and didnt realise the driver stayed alday to wait for us to take us back! felt dreadful after knowing that. we use the tutut aswell as they are cheap anmd chearful but maybe not for the longer trips, as they can be a bumpy ride lol

if in doubt ask afew different taxis and then u will get an idea as to what u should be paying and for what. we also are going to try the buses this time to go into Panjim and get a river cruise and then eat at Delhi Darbar for dinner. have a safe trip and maybe see you soon x

I think a trip on the ferry is a must, just for the experience. If you are in Panjim for the evening get a taxi back as the last bus leaves Betim at 8.30pm.

Some of our best evenings have been in Panjim and there's more to the food than the Delhi Darbar. Shere e Punjab Classic is a lovely restaurant with excellent food. Mirch Masala restaurant in the Hotel Fidalgo is also worth a try.
