Flew Manchester /Doha/Goa this year but had problems with the seats reserved being given away. On the Doha /Goa leg this would have meant me and my misses being sat at opposite ends of the plane.
I had a problem giving advance passenger info on line as my travel agent had put my surname down twice on the booking. Rang Qatar and gave advance passenger information, no problem. Said we would not beable to check in online due to the name discepency but as we had booked seats this would not matter and to arrive at check in two hours before flight. When we checked in we were told our seats had been allocated to other people , It transpires that if you don't check in on line your seat reservation is released as soon as the airport check in is opened. i politely complained as we had booked the seats the previous March. The check in girl got her supervisor to Ring Doha and we were given seats together. We were warned if we didn't check in online 36 hours before our return flights the same thing could happen and they sent me to the ticket desk to resolve this. The ladies on the ticket desk were very good even changing the seats on our outward flight Man/Doha for better ones. They said we could have problems again checking in online in Goa due to the name descepency but to ring the ticket desk and ask for them by name and they would try to overide the system and check us in. This we did and everything went smoothly on the return Journey.
IT IS QATAR POLICY TO TREAT SEAT RESERVATIONS AS REQUESTS AND THESE ARE NOT CONFIRMED UNTIL YOU CHECK IN ONLINE. I would fly with Qatar again for the excellent service we were given but I wish I had known in advance about the seat situation.
