VASCO: Baina beach is wearing a festive look these days thanks to the ongoing 'Summer Slam'. From orchestras to DJs, fashion shows to sand sculptures, the seven-day festival will end on Tuesday with a tiatr.

This is the third consecutive year the Mormugao municipality has organized this festival. It spent 4 lakh on the same this year. In fact, it has also launched a signature campaign that will be given to the tourism department. Chopdekar said the council plans to put up benches, statues, a permanent stage, and even shacks if the funds come from the government.
"There is very little for Vascoites to enjoy in the port town, Baina beach is the only tourist attraction left. It should be promoted," said senior citizen Jagdish Naik of New Vaddem. Agreed local businessman Abdulla Mulla, "It's a 2 km-long beach streatch with islands off it. Tourism can be promoted well here with a little effort."
