Are some hotels over-priced or am i just getting tight?

I'm just back from a weekend break in Antwerp where i stayed in a lovely 4 star hotel for £75 per night. Everything else was expensive as expected in a euro zone country but it got me thinking about the cost of accommodation in Goa.

In relation to how cheap everything else is,yes even taxis,i think a lot of hotels don't represent good value for money.

Obviously, there are some, especially home stays & beach huts that are incredible value.

For example,2 years ago the Nazri resort Baga had rooms for £35 & £40 , now they are £55 & £70.

The new 3 star S.S Hideaway in Candolim has a basic room for £58 plus £8 tax or a nicer room for £69 plus £9 tax.

I think these are both over-priced even though i may stay at the Hideaway for a few days in Feb being the hypocrite i am!

So,am i getting tight?

I think it's a state of mind we're all guilty of. We all want things at the prices we payed years ago.

Goan hotels are now overpriced. Have a look at this hotel in a resort in Vietnam and compare them. It is a new hotel and on TA has 45 reviews all giving it top marks - cost is approx £15 per night with a reduction for a longer stay

Will do a review of it next month :-) :-)

Hi Jeera

I await your review with interest.

I was due for a month away in February taking in Vietnam,Laos & Cambodia but my friends had to pull out for business reasons so it is a reprieve for lovely Goa & my equally lovely & lucky OH lol.

I thought i made a valid point about the cost of hotels but nobody has made any comments. It is not a criticism of Goa but merely an observation.

I absolutely love the place & can see myself living there for 4 months of the year if/when i semi retire ( Danny Alexander permitting ) in 5 years time!

You're right about the cost of some hotel rooms. We tried to book CSM last year direct but had to go for a package at the Nari in the end as the hotel was coming up with silly prices - more that decent UK hotels

I actually compared it to Antwerp & stick by my assertions.

You can have an amazing 5 star meal in Goa for £10 yet a dirty badly mantained 2 star hotel can cost up to £50 per night and some 3 stars can set you back up to £80.

I don't think for 1 minute that Goa has or will get as expensive as,say,Thailand but the quality particularly in cleanliness & decent mattresses etc are miles apart.
