Goa in October - too quiet?

Hi there, we're going to a wedding in India in October and were hoping to then split about ten days between Kerala and Goa around the first/second week of October. After reading up, it sounds like Goa in October may be risky - we're a couple and not into serious partying so don't mind a quiet few days, but we'd still like a bit of atmosphere and some beach bars. Will things still mostly be closed around the second week of October? Any areas which might be a little be livelier around then?

Thanks very much!

Yes, it will be quiet.

The only area with any life will be the C/C/B strip.

As Wolf says, your best bet would be Baga and Calangute. 'Permament' shacks should be open. My friend Robert who runs Emmanuel Shack in Baga said they converted their status to a 'permament' shack recently (stone flooring, etc).

Shacks like these would stay open or would open up as soon as the monsoon winds abate in August. Looking at the positive side, one of the benefits of elections (municipal, state, central) is slightly liberal shack license policies!

If you like entire beach stretches to yourself, October is a great time, guest houses and hotels would have opened up after maintenance.

Here is a glimpse of October in Agonda:

Baga and Calangute would be far busier, particularly if your dates coincide with any of the Indian festivals in October....which is often the Dussehra and/or Diwali month.
