I think it is 2 litres, have a look at the customs declaration information for Mumbai airport for further information.

I don't think you'll need a licence for that amount.

Sorry Wolf I thought there were different rules for domestic tourists due to the lower taxes on alcohol produced in Goa and taken out of state. I had also read somewhere (IndiaMike?) that a permit used to be required? Apologies to the OP if I gave you the wrong information but maybe you would be best to check with the airport or airline.

I remember getting 'permits' many years ago before travelling by bus from Goa to Bangalore. Don't know if these slips of paper exist these days. :)

A few bottles in checked-in baggage seems to be ok. No questions are asked at the X-ray machine at the airport.

May be a good idea to check with the airline or with one of the large retail outlets in Panaji if you wish to carry more than that.

Hi Jyoti, unfortunately the rules dont change that often and yes, those paper permits are still in place for the reason best known to the govt. :)

I've only ever heard of permits being applied on a bus, and that for large quantities of alcohol.

So 2 litres per person, so assuming 4 bottles per couple..
