New Train Service in Goa.

Heres one for all those wanting to experience a short train journey wjen in Goa.

With effect today a new train service is introduced between Margoa & Karwar.....running three times a week, the train leaves Margo (07103 train number) at 11.50am arrives at Karwar at 1.35 pm...... It then leaves Karwar (07104 train number) at 2.50pm and arrives madgoa at 4.10 pm..... stops on both directions at Balli, Canacona, Liliem & Asnoti............

This route will allow those tourists who just want to enjoy a short train trip, without too long a journey, or having to purchase tickets in advance, to experience the Indian railway system. Tickets can be purchased on the day of travel..

We might give that a go cos never been on the trains there as we dont fancy spending long time on them. Is there a cafe or bar at Karwar to sit and have a snack or drink before getting the train back. Thanks.

June there is a tea and snacks stall at Karwar, nothing fancy but good for a quick cuppa and a snack.

Daniel The newspaper article said odd days but not on sundays, so far Indian railways have not listed the route on their schedule , when they do I will post the info.

Once on a trip to Karwar my friend ordered an ice cream at a cafe a short walk off the beach area. There was something like 9 different flavours for 50 rupees. We took a photo as we could not believe it.

Not all that exciting but cheap!

Spoke with ticket office in Panjim today, appears train will be another few weeks before starting the service, train is reportedly running four weeks late.

Should be runing on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays in one week & Tuesday, Thursday & Saturdays in the alternative week, ie when the date is an odd number, 1st, 3rd, 5th etc, except it won't run on Sundays. Could only happen in India.

Both coaches will be second class seated, tickets will only be available on the day of travel, booking office opens two hours before train is due to leave. A single ticket on the Madgoan to Karwar route should be, wait for it, about 50 rupees a person, however you will be able to buy a return ticket from Madgoan to Karwar, not any other stops (they expect this train will attract a lot of interest during the season from foreign daytrippers). I believe one operator is even listing it in their excursions booklet, for 1500 rupees per person from north Goa, which will included return coach to Madgoan and a light lunch at Karwar.
