Latest advice on mobile phone/sim

Hi I'm going to Goa for 5 months and I'm hoping you experienced travellers can advice me what is the least expensive way to keep in contact with home. Do I buy a phone or SIM card over there? I have been told some phones have been adapted not to accept foreign SIM cards don't know how true this is. I have been to Goa many times and have always used the company phone however this situation has now changed.

At the moment there's no problem with getting a local SIM card......you can also have any "blocked" phone "unblocked" pretty easily.

get a smart phone with WIFI on it - then it will work with SKYPE . video or voice calls for free on any WIFI . thats the cheapest way ;-) if your taking a netbook or tablet you dont even need a phone . you dont need a full on iphone , but try one with a recent version of android operating system .

i brilliant budget phone is about to be released today coincidently called "ZTE Blade V Quad core" £99 .
