Tips for first timers!

Beware of the ear cleaners if you go to Anjuna market! If anyone approaches you trying to stick something in your ear and comes up with something disgusting they say is from your ear, don't be fooled, it's a con. We heard of someone who parted with 3,000 rupees on the way into the market and had no money left to spend there!

Take a bottle of anti-bacterial hand gel with you to cleanse with on the beach or wherever - toilets don't always have soap. A loo roll or baby wipes are handy too for the beach and day trips.

Only drink bottled water and make sure the seal is not broken before opening and don't have ice in drinks unless you are certain it is from bottled water.

Power cuts are frequent, normally when you're in the flippin' shower or trying to do your make-up, so if you have room in your case, take a torch.

And for the ladies - don't wear high heels! You could easily break an ankle or worse wearing them over there.

And don't forget to barter in the markets - it's actually really good fun when you get into it!

I'm sure there's lots more I can't think of right now. Anyone got anymore?

Put your make up, body lotion, after sun (well almost everything!) in the fridge if you have one in your room.

Take a tube of travel wash with you for that 'just in case' time.

I don't bother with travel wash - shampoo or shower gel does the job just as well.

Don't skimp on the suncream. The sun is extremely powerful there and you'll burn easily.

Water

In the UK its advised that our bodies need two litres of water a day but just remember in India its six litres a day,,Beer and soft drinks will not rehydrate your body,,So if you have a headache when in Goa ,,The chances are that you need water and not painkillers,,So its water for living and beer for laughing .

Don't eat anything unless it's peeled or cooked.

Avoid salads. Some places say their salad is washed in bottled water, of course it's up to you' but you're taking a chance.

If you book a cab with a/c make sure that it's switched on as you get in. Sometimes when you're halfway down the road and you ask for the a/c they try to charge you extra even though you specifically asked for it when you booked.

When you buy stuff like shampoo in the shops it carries the maximum retail price including tax printed on it, this is the max you should pay.

And agree a price with the taxi driver before getting in.

And don't under estimate the strength of the sea, the currents are strong so don't go out far.

Thankx 4 all these tips. We fly out of Gatwick next Saturday night. Fly down to Gatwick on friday evening and staying in the yotel as we get to keep the room until 90 mins before our flight. Looking forward to a night out in London also, which will probably be a restaurant and a few drinks around chinatown.

And don't book trips through your tour operator - it's much cheaper to do them independantly with a taxi driver.
