where to go in goa for my 40th

i am thinking about spending my 40th birthday in goa, i would like to know which is the nicest area, i am hoping for beachfront hotels quite near to shops and restaurants, went ot caribbean last year and found it very restrictive, also is it safe for two women travelling alone? thanks

Sher

It is safe in Goa for women to travel alone, the Goans are a lovely race, just be cautious at night time and try not to go off the beaten track.with no lights .

Goa is nothing like the Caribbean there are no restrictions. Everywhere in Goa the restaurants and bars are very inexpensive. North Goa is far more commercialised than South.

One beach front hotel I can recommend is the Goan Heritage, Calungute/Candolim side its clean and basic Friends of ours have stayed there 5 years running, we prefer guesthouses.

You need to decide if you want busy commercialised and touristy - the main tourist belt being Baga/Calungute/Candolim in the North or the calm and tranquility of the South They are both are within 2 hour max of each other by taxi (also very cheap) so you can go and see the other by taxi

Have a very happy 40th

cheers Lyn

Happy birthday in advance.

I went to goa for the first time with three girl friends this year in january. We loved it so much I have been back on my own twice this year and have arranged to celebrate my 40th in december at a beach resort in South Goa (www.colabeach.com).

It is very reasonable and I loved it's location and the accomodation which is in luxurious old style indian tents right on the beach.

you sound like you like a bit of LIFE vicky, my advice is go north, there are a lot more shops and markets, baga is very good for these things calangute and candolim should also be considered.

south goa is very quiet, with not many shops, you will have to travel to do your shopping!!!

happy birthday, ( i'd like to be 40 again, remind me what its like, if you have time).

best wishes bob

You don't have to travel to get to shops if you are staying in South Goa I wouldn't stay in Baga if you paid me. We love Cavelossim and Benaulim have a great 40th :-)

Happy drizzly, damp and chilly monday night, Goa lovers!

I sure do like life, Bob, but I don't understand where it's going , it doesn't seem like 10minutes since my 21st!

My partner and I have had a pretty c**p 2006, Jon lost his mum (very unexpectedly) in June and I had a total hip replacement so we intend on going for it big time this December.

It'll be our 7th visit to Goa and we are heading north to stay with Goan friends in good ol' Calangute. After a week of knocking back the Romanoffs 'n' Cokes at the Rock cafe and the vegetable makanwalas in Vrundavan, we head down south and rent a coco hut. Then it's yoga at sunrise, swimming , reading and early nights, serenaded by the nothing but the crashing of the ocean waves.

From there on we're contemplating a trip to Chennai to sample a true Madras curry and to see a bit more of India.

7 weeks and 5 days to go.....I can't bl**dy wait!

Vicky xx
