Candolim Restaurants

Talking of restaurants in Goa – the best chef in Goa must be Alvino the owner of Floyds Hut opposite the Guru Jewellers and Elephant shop in Candolim. Do not be put off by the word Hut as this is a pukka restaurant specialising in tandori food of the highest order. The sheer quality of the food coupled with the fact that Alvino has not put the prices up for years makes it a must if you are in the area. The Memsahib and I will partake in onion bhaji and pokora starters followed by garlic chicken skewer and tandori king prawns with rice, roti and several G & Ts and R & Cs all for about £12 (inc tip). Fabulous. We and our friends have spent a fortnight in Goa where we ate at Alvino’s Floyds Hut every night! Are we mad – no just wise!

We tried Floyds when we were there in Feb/March, the food was good but I wouldn't eat there every night. There are plenty of good restaurants all around Candolim.

Are you sure you got the right Floyd's as there are two. The one I am refering to is on the western (beach) side of the main strip. The other (inferior) is on the eastern (land) side of the strip. Evidently they were once one and the same but an argument led to a split.

Lol I agree though no matter how good the food was anywhere I wouldn't eat in the same place every night.

Paymonger, yeah it was opposite the Elephant shop. I'm not criticising the place, I just think that there are alot of good restaurants in Candolim that serve good food. I myself liked Fishermans Cove in the center of Candolim.

Floyd's Hut was still there in the same place this season but the other Floyd's is now Tony's Place (famous for fish & chips) we've never eaten at Floyd's although it does get good reviews. I have to agree no matter how good a place is I would not eat there every night, there are far too many good eating places in Candolim to stick to the one. We like the small Fisherman's Cove by the football ground, but don't rate the main one in the center of Candolim, so I think it's each to their own. I think it would get very boring to stick to the same place every night, it would be like going all inclusive.

Have been to Candolim for the last 5 years and for me, although after 8 and Souymens are pretty good, the Moonlight does the best food in the area. The food is just good basic fayre that never gives you a bad belly.

OK ,OK I take it back - we must be mad to go to Floyds every night. Next trip we will go to the Stonehouse for one night and the other 13 we will go to Floyds! I dont rate Fisherman's Cove restaurant at all as when we last went there the meat was as rough as old boots (size 10 medium) and the Memsahib got a funny look from a waiter! Mind you she's had funny looks from waiters in Whitby!
