Expectations, Experiences & Highlights

We are in the final phase of our countdown as we fly on Sunday and it already seems like there are so many things we are hoping to do in our two precious weeks in Goa that if we do not start planning a few days then we will not get it all done!

I had an idea. I asked by hubby to make a list of the 10 things he was most looking forward to experiencing in Goa and I did the same. We then compared notes on which things on our "wish lists" were similar so we can try and make sure we both get to do as many of the things we long to do as we can.

Of course everyone is different and I know many of you ladies will have handbag shopping and sunbathing on a list while neither of those was on my list but I thought it could be an interesting exercise for people to list their top ten desirable experiences while in Goa and share them with the rest of us.

Mine were as follows:

1, A trip with Uday (bird watching guide) in his dug out canoe on the river in the bird sanctuary at dawn

2, Getting some really good photos of the bee eaters

3, A trip to Panjim market - to see the meat, fish, fruit and vegetables

4, watching the fruits bats in Agonda

5, Eating fish curry rice

6, An evening at The Stone House when Pascaol is playing

7, Hopefully getting invited to visit our taxi drivers home to deliver gifts to his family

8, At Agonda, throwing small waste fish into the air as the Brahminy kites swoop down to take them in mid air

9, Sunset(s)

10, Spotting a bird I have never seen before (and correctly identifying it!)

On the other hand my hubby's list was:

1, Hiring our Royal Enfield Motorcycles

2, Visiting Agonda

3, A trip with Uday (bird watching guide) in his dug out canoe on the river in the bird sanctuary at dawn

4, A dolphin watching trip

5, visiting the new version of The Rising Waves restaurant

6, Having a proper shave and haircut

7, A day in Panjim

8, Evenings at The Stone House

9, Lunch at Chocolatti

10, Visit to the aviation museum

So over to you folks - what are your 10 things on your wish list

1. Getting the train down from Mumbai - always a magical journey

2. Having a cup of tea with Virginia, my lovely landlady

3. That very first walk down to the beach that make your heart sink with the year long yearning to be back

4. The mad bus ride into Calangute - just because you can!

5. A beer in Calangute - probably the Public Bar

6. The mad bus ride back to Candolim - just because you can!

7. Get off the mad bus ride and go upstair to Snow's bar for swift one.

8. A curry at my favourite place (no names no pack drills!)

9. A stroll to Bending Bamboos and smile at people having a lovely time.

10. And this is the best one - waking up in the morning and thinking I could do all of the above today if I wanted to!

1. Feeling the butterflies of excitement as we step off the plane and onto Goan soil.

2. The bumpy ride down the little road into Agonda.

3. Sitting with my feet in the sand, gin and tonic in hand and lovely hubby sat next to me whilst we watch the first and many sunsets of our holiday.

4. Trying really really hard to not shout "shut up" at the crows!

5. Ditto the barking and howling dogs, who have just woken me up, but knowing that the sound of the waves will lull me back to sleep.

6. Eating lots of lovely freshly prepared veggie food everywhere and anywhere in Goa.

7. Walking along Agonda Beach at night time lit up by the moon.

8. Feeling the lovely warm sunshine on my face.

9. A visit to ingos Saturday night market for some good music, great atmosphere and lovely thalassa food.

10. Laying a flower in the sea at Arambol beach to drift out to sea in memory of a very special man who also held Goa very dear to his heart.

I wish I could have more than 10 but I would be here all night!
