Leh in august end

Hi Experts,

Need your advice to plan my trip for Leh-Ladakh in august end.

I am from Delhi and planning to reach there by flight on 23 Aug 2014 and thinking to return by road via Srinagar or Manali whichever is safe and quick.

Is Srinagar to Delhi route is safe and how much time/budget is required for this?

or should I plan for return flight?

Hi,

Please see the below itinerary,

D1- Delhi to Srinagar by air

D2- Srinagar-Zozi La-Drass-Kargil, Overnight Kargil

D3- Kargil-Lamayuru-Leh, Overnight Leh

D4- Rest

D5- Leh-Khardung La-Nubra, Overnight Hunder (Camping)

D6- Hunder-Panamik-Leh, Overnight Leh

D7- Leh-Pangong Tso, Overnight Pangong (Camping)

D8- Pangong Tso-Leh, Overnight Leh

D9- Rafting

D10- Leh-Tso Morriri, Overnight Tso-Morriri or Karzok

D11- Tso Morriri-Tso Kar-Sarchu, Overnight Sarchu

D12- Sarchu-Keylong-Rohtang Pass-Manali, Overnight Manali

D13- Manali-Delhi

Please consider one or two buffer days also, in-case you face any mess in Rohtang or somewhere else. If you don't have enough days in your hand, then please tell me how many days you have, we can modify the itinerary. If you catch early morning flight from Delhi-Srinagar, then same day you can travel from Srinagar to Kargil, so that you can save one day.

Regarding Delhi-Srinagar route, it is time consuming, Delhi-Jammu itself 12-14 hours, then Jammu-Srinagar, again more travel, 5-7 hours. So better catch flight.

Road trip will be costly if you are a couple. It would be better & safe plan by flight.

Currently return flights tickets are around 8000 per person from leh to delhi. Is road trip going to cost more than this?
