Is Bangalore or Hyderabad better to find IT professionals?

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of visiting India for a holiday plus some head hunting too. Planning to be there for around 3-6 months.

I've got an upcoming project and I am looking at interviewing and hiring professionals experienced in:

- Web Development

- UX/ UI

- Database Management

- Mobile Apps Development

Could you please advise if Hyderabad or Bangalore is better suited to finding this pool of talent?

As per wikipedia, Bangalore seems to be the Silicon Valley, however Hyderabad seems to have the offices of Google, Facebook, etc if that is any indication to go by. So a bit confused on deciding between the two places.

Would love feedback from people that may have worked in the IT sector and in both places.

Obviously, finding the right candidates comes first, however if you are to consider other factors too, they are:

- Availability of serviced apartments (How easy is it for expats to rent?)

- Having fast & stable broadband or fibre optic internet connections (Any recommended ISP's?)

- Reliability of power supply, are backup generators common? (Any place more reliable than other?)

- Would like a place that is safe and friendly to foreigners.

Thanks to all of you and hope to hear your feedback!

JP.

Thanks so much for all your input guys, very much appreciated.

Are you able to please offer any suggestions on where to stay in Bangalore?

Main concerns are:

1. Strong reliable internet connection as I work online 12-14hrs a day and would need a broadband, ADSL2 or Fibre Optic type download/upload speeds. Definitely prefer cable connection. Any recommended ISP's?

2. Areas that have minimal or no power outages or alternatively serviced apartments that are able to facilitate backup power supply with power generators, etc.

3. Would be nice to be close to restaurants, shopping, groceries, etc however it is not a big concern in comparison to the other two points above.

Thanks again for all your help guys, really appreciate any feedback you can offer.

JP.

Hi JP,

Well everything depends on your budget really on where you would want to stay.

1. Regarding Internet there are good amount of options to choose from, Airtel usually is the most reliable one, ACT Broadband has one of the best speed. IF money is not an issue then a dongle would be a better choice.

2.Power cuts in Bangalore is common during the summer, but a good serviced apartment will have back up all the time.

3. Staying in the Center of Bangalore is always a bonus, but the location you choose might also depend upon where your office is located. So once you know where you will be working depending on that you should look for accommodation.

You can look up for apartments on the local Indian sites on rent etc just to give you an idea on how much you might be paying in Bangalore.

Thanks for all the info Vikram.

The plan is to be near one of the IT hubs or tech parks. I am looking at taking on a large spacious apartment and have my locally recruited team working from my place 5 days a week.

I've done some research and have found ITPL/ ITPB to be one of the more popular IT hubs. The reason I wish to be closer to one of these tech parks, is to have the opportunity to network and socialise with others within the IT sector and possibly find some good talents too.

I'm convinced on going with Airtel for the internet connections based on all the reviews. Would like some advise on what are the accommodation options near ITPL. Any suggestions on which are the nicer apartments or blocks to stay in? Would like to be close to restaurants, shopping facilities (groceries/ clothing stores, etc) pubs or bars.

I don't plan to be driving there, so easy access to transportation options would be something I need to consider as well.

Looking forward to any suggestions you can offer.

Many thanks!

I would pick Hyderabad over Bangalore. Bangalore's infrastructure is stretched to breaking point and housing is crazily expensive. Good people are available in both cities; they are both IT and service industry hubs. Chennai is a good option too, for finding good people. (I worked in IT for 18 years, a lot of it in outsourcing).

Any place in the city will satisfy the conditions you have given :) Decent electricity, internet connectivity is available in most places, except the newly developed areas around ITPL / Electronic City.

However, rent is quite expensive inside the city. If that won't fit in your budget, you may have to check specifically before deciding on a place to stay. I have many friends who bought a house in the outskirts because of price, but are not well connected. Companies like Airtel clearly refuse to serve certain areas if they feel they don't have the minimum numbers.

Hi,

Bengaluru is definitely the IT capital with a huge talent pool.Excellent weather & cosmopolitan ambience of Bengaluru makes it the top attraction for professionals from allover India.

Check out Adarsh Palm meadows,Prestige shantiniketan,Brigade Metropolis & hordes of other apartment complexes in the vicinity of ITPB.

ITPL is near Whitefield, A slightly expensive area, But then again I am not sure what your budget is, well a large apartment for a locally appointed team might be possible but also complicated, you will probably need a reasonably big Apartment for that and also find out if the owners are OK using it as an office ( I am not sure). Again as suggested earlier look into the local Indian Real Estate sites like 99 acres, Magicbricks etc. You can compare and see IF it fits the budget.

Regarding things like Shopping, Restaurants n Bars it won’t be a problem, Whitefield has developed very well over the years and you should have enough options. Although Whitefield is a little far off from the heart of the City it’s a good location anyway. Public transportation should not be a problem, there will be auto rickshaw, Bus, or u can pre book a Taxi (Reasonably priced).
