Recommendations please!

Hello all....

Need some help/ recommendations for our trip to Kerala in mid-November please:

We arrive by train into Kochi on Sunday 16th and leave by air on Saturday 22nd.

We are looking forward to a few days of rest and relaxation by the beach - can anyone suggest some great resorts and the best beaches to stay at in the area?

Also we hope to visit the Munnar area - some recommendations for here would be great too! What's the best way to travel to Munnar...are taxis available from Kochi and approx how much?

Many thanks!

Hi Alexiswarren,

As said in the previous post, Cherai & Marari beaches are worth exploring. If you intend to go further into south of Kerala, then Kovalam & Varkala beaches are also major tourist destinations. Varkala has the specialty that beach & cliff co-exist.

Minimum two days must be set aside for Munnar to cover almost all the important sightseeing places. If you want to reach Munnar, alighting at Aluva railway station is a good option.

I suggest you to hire a cab from Cochin itself, do Cochin local sightseeing & retain the cab for the remaining days' trip.

You will get a plenty of cabs from Cochin. The point is, do take special care in selecting a cab from reputed operators so that you can ensure an experienced, well behaved & family friendly driver for your trip. Investing some time in selecting your driver will make your trip a memorable one!

Cheers,

Arun

Hi,

November is a great time to be in Kerala. It is neither hot nor humid.

If the first port of call is Munnar, do get down at Aluva Railway station (almost all trains do stop there) and get a cab to Munnar. A good hotel would be the Club Mahindra or ‘The Siena Village’. Both are highly recommended and offer quality, comfort and great service. If you do book either of the hotels, you may ask them to arrange a pick up from Aluva.

You can spend a couple of days at Munnar(17th and 18th) and then take a cab to Thekkady. The boating and a visit to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary should take care of the day(19th). You may then take another cab to Kumarakom and spend the night there. The Taj Kumarakom is a great place to stay. On the 20th you may visit the bird sanctuary in Kumarakom and take a houseboat to Alappuzha. The newly opened Ramada Alleppey offers the best of the Ramada hospitality. Spend the night there and take the early morning train to either Varkala or Trivandrum (for Kovalam). Both places offer great beaches and hotels/resorts. The latter is better developed with a better selection of resorts and you may spend two days there. If you have an evening flight, take a train from Trivandrum and alight at Angamali railway station. An autorickshaw should drop you at the Kochi airport for about Rs 100 – 150. Do not forget to relax and rejuvenate the body through Ayurveda. Each of the resorts mentioned should have a qualified doctor and a capable team to ensure that your experience with Ayurveda is a delightful affair.
